brake pads! is this a good deal
i went to the local auto shop and i need new brake pads.
he said its going to be like this
honda genuine brake pads = 56.81
tax = 4 69
rotors turned = 30.00
labor = 68.95
total = 160.45
is this a rip off?
also i called midas and they said theyll charge me 150 for everything including a lifetime guarantee, but it will be midas brake pads.
edit: i drive a 2001 civic dx, with 17k miles.

Just b/c they said you need to turn your totors doesn't mean you have to, if you take then off and there is no scaringand they appear fairly smooth i wouldn't worry about it
it been a year and my rotors are still really good and even, no turning needed...get you rotors turned when you feel uneven braking.. like in the pedal you feel the brakes eating and slipping at slight pressure...kinda hard to explain.. anyone wanna help out?
I've had my car for a year and a half, and havent had anything done to my rotors...
Also, I bought the AEM/Nissin pads because they were cheaper and supposedly better than the OEM ones. They ran me less than $55 shipped. I have to say I like them better than the stock ones...can feel the braking difference.

if you want, buy your own pads... (OE or aftermarket).. and do the replacement urself... its not too difficult.
there's a DIY buried in the forum by Grey on brake pad replacement...
and inspect the rotors urself...
IMO, there seems to be some conflicting thoughts on that though.. some people believe that even though u can't see it, the rotors may need resurfacing... others think looking at it is enough.
another general rule is... you should run old pads with new rotors, or new pads with old rotors... let either one break in a bit before using two new items at once.
