Got VENOM 400 from Tornactive

I called Rob and ordered the Venom 400 Monday and it arrived already today. The instructions look good and it looks easy. The hardest part will be trying to find a place to mount the box under the hood. Anyway I'm happy with the service and the price ($265 shipped) and I'll probably install and try it out tomorrow. Then I gotta borrow a G meter and run some trials with the Venom turned on and turned off. Will report findings when I get the data.

...when u are pushing gas 50% with venom 400 on it will be 75%, and when u get to a 100% venom 400 wont give u 125%, I think venom 400 doesnt do anything for your car u can time it on and off and tell us if u got any faster....

I understand what you are saying, but I asked you how does the Venom 400 give you 25% more gas? Like the gas pedal is linked to the throttle body with a cable. The Venom hooks up to the ECU system sensors. It doesn't do anything to the throttle cable. I just don't see how that would work.

I had no idea that it had to do with the throttle cable its with the ECU i dont think it has to do anything with the gas pedal.

I don't think it has anything mecanical to do with the throttle cable either. That's why I asked BoyRacer how he thinks it works.

I mean when u pushing the gas peadal Venom 400 pushes it 25 % faster, thats why u hook it up to ECU to make it think that u r pushing your gas pedal at 75% when u really at 50%...

Thanks, now I think I know what you mean.

So the ECU thinks the throttle is open wider than it really is?. Then that might let the ECU advance the igntition timing and stuff like that? I think that's what I want it to do, give me more ingitioin advance sooner. Maybe it really will help.

It also says to turn it off to get a smog check. I guess maybe it might up the emissions some. But we don't get smog checks here anyway so I won't worry about that much.

i dont know about BOYRACERs explanation there, sounds a little off. anyways, IDQCIVIC has this and he said that when it comes on, which isnt all the time, it doesnt do much except for like on the freeway and when he really gets on it...i believe. he posted up his thoughts and results with this product in earlier threads, so maybe check it out if your interested...

Yeah i've got the venom, I think it helps smooth out the acceleration a little bit. I think it helped the most if i'm just cruising at like 55, downshift and then punch it.... If I take off from a dead stop once I hit high rpm's sometimes the LED flashses which indicates its not working all the time or there is nothing the venom can do at that time to improve performance. Other times the LED is on constantly under heavy acceleration, meanin the venom is working. I still havent done tests with my GTECH as the weather has been kinda rainy lately.

Where did you put the LED wire through the firewall and where did you mount it? I have mine all installed except that part. Thanks.

On the passenger side lift the carpet up and there is you have to reach up kinda, and there ist his rubber thing going through the fire wall, thats the same spot I ran my power wire for my amps, we'll I just ran it through there. I drilled a hole kinda by my cigartte lighter and just mounted the LED there....

The Venom 400 is kind of a waste of money in two ways. You never utilize it during normal driving conditions, thus it's just there not doing anything for ya. Also, when you do use it, you have the pleasure of "watching your fuel level drop".

You engage the unit at 3/4 throttle so to keep the thing runnin' for ya, you have be pushing almost all the way down on the gas pedal all the time. Say goodbye to fuel efficiency!

However, to give it some credit...when I had it on my 2000 V6 Tacoma, I could roast the rear tires (32" BFG Mud Terrains) doing 70mph on the freeway. Just floored it and I lost traction until I came back down below 3/4 throttle. That's quite a weird sensation and I wouldn't recommend it.

That's what I was looking for. Don't need any help for cruising or normal driving, just want more passing power. Need to have a little burst of acceleration on tap for getting out of a traffic situation, getting around slow left lane traffice, etc.

I really can't think of any performance enhancing applications that don't cost some gas mileage, at least under the condtitiions under which those mods are effective.

Mot much to tell yet. I got a "seat of the pants" feeling that it's really faster from around 50 MPH to 90 MPH, but I haven't got the G force meter yet to get any "real data". I'm not seeing any improvement from zero to 60 though. I'm also not sure I have a really good connection on the TPS since the little red light doesn't always come on when I floor the accelerator. So I gotta get the same guy with the G meter (he's an electrician) to check the continuity of the connections for me. I don't have any meters or stuff like that, myself. So I'll just have to post more when I have more real info.

OK here's some initial "official" resluts. Got the G meter from buddy, had to fix the power plug. Then it rained. Finally found a dry road with not too many houses and ran some 1/4 mile times with Venom off and Venom on. Ran both directions 4 runs at each condition averaged best 3 times for each.

VENOM OFF:.. Avg = 18.32 SEC @ 78.9 MPH Best run = 18.08 @ 80.5

VENOM ON:... Avg = 18.21 SEC @ 79.1 MPH Best run = 17.82 @ 81.5

The G meter will also measure HP. I'll have to do that later. I figure the area where I was testing was getting kinda warm, but I wanted to do all the 1/4 tests at the same place, same weather, same time of day, etc.

And please don't laugh at the times. This is an EX automatic and I forgot and leff my ammo bag in the trunk after going shooting yesterday.

for a fraction of a second on 1/4 mile times... that is 100% useless to my needs. if i see some HP increases, then i might consider it, but regardless, this product doesnt seem efficient for $300-$400 NEW. the $200 from IDQCIVIC dont sound too bad, but still would want to see some results before even consider that purchase. for $200, i could prolly spend my money better else where anyways...
