Get custom piping done after you get your muffler. It will sound A LOT louder and better.
2.25" Custom piping runs from $40-100.

mine sounds like one in high rpms really loud im scared of driving next to cops I didn't think custom piping 2.25 would be that loud straight pipe also with a universal muffler looks and sounds cool
very deep though

Just the muffler alone...you could expect to hear about a 2/3 decibels increase, but the magnaflows are a deeper sound. Not as deep as the DC TCS, but its deeper than most system. The cherry bomb, or OBX, or anything like that is WAY weedwacker. The magnaflow isn't. It's a nice sounding exhaust.
Get the muffler and rejoice!
Actually, the group buy for the cat-back was $300 USD. Not sure how much just a muffler is, but for that price (shipped, btw) you really can't go wrong!

ok i don't know what i'm talkin about. ok stupid my friend had the magnaflow muffler put on his 2k1 and it sounded high pitched like a beee and all nasty. so he went back and got some custom pipes and they made it sound deeper but he took that off and finally did the SMARt thing and bought an aftermarkey cat-back. do whats easy. avoid all the problems

Everything you want to know about magnaflows. Style, price, etc.
I have the magnaflow catback. I thought the muffler would sound just like it, except without the gains? Mine doesn't sound like a weedwhacker at all.

To clarify:
If you swap the stock muffler with the Magnaflow there will be little change in the exhaust tone. It will be a bit deeper - but NOT weed-whackerish at ALL. If, however, you remove the stock resonator and replace it with a straight pipe, you'll have rice on wheels. Removing the resonator will probably not give you any power gains (maybe 1-2hp TOPS, probably nil).
Best bet, if you have the $$$ is to go for the magnaflow cat-back (that's what I have). At cruising speeds, ie: contant speed, the exhaust sounds pretty much stock from the interior of the car. Full-throttle, and you get a nice DEEEEEEP tone, not too loud. Some people dis the Magnaflow because it isn't loud enough. I bought it for just that reason - looks awesome, mild performance gains, and won't attract attention from cops or give me a headache.
My 2 cents...

i have had both types of magnaflows....one that sounded like a pissed off bumble bee on my saturn and one that sounded very deep and was very quiet....even when i stomped on it. but i switched to maxspeed which im liking even more. its a nice deep sound...and no kazoo for me...and all i did was the muffler
