Hp Header????

- i got real question. no its not about horsepower, fitment, or carb legal. its about the possibility that hp actually made two different style headers.

- i was on this site searching for pics of the 4-1 race header and came across pics posted by nbpcivic's. the 4 pipes on his header stretched all the way to the bottom so the downipipe replacement had no curve on the end ( it was just straight) ?pics of nbpcivic's hp header

- i went to local performance shop and asked if they had the header in stock. to my surprise they did and it was on display. but this hp header was built differently. it had the upper section resembling the dc header, then it had the downpipe. the downpipe though was much more longer than nbp civics and curved upward to the upper section of the header. ( this 4-1 was built like the stock header in that its an exact replica just bigger piping and replace the cat) both downpipes had both 02 sensors

- has anybody noticed else notice this difference

By any chance was it this that you saw? I remember seeing some on ebay before like this so I decided to check. Sorry but I don't know the difference between this and mine. Maybe someone else could shed some light on the subject.

Edit: if it was stainless steel that you saw, maybe tihs one?

hmm. that might have just been a HP shorty header with a downpipe...

they do sell those downpipes on ebay for like 100 bucks...

edit: meaning, the shop got confused or maybe heard u wrong.. but thats not the HP 4-1 header with highflow cat...

its just a hp shorty with the hp downpipe...

Yep, hp makes a seperate downpipe that connects up to the shorty headers now. So, you could keep your stock header and get there downpipe, or get the hp shorty header w/the downpipe like he saw in the sto.

The race is exactly that, a long tube header.

was it a good bolt on or did you have to shave some mounts like some other members?

He wouldn't have to shave anything to put the downpipe in. It's the RACE headers that have the fitment issues. We have a shorty header meaning that the tubes are very short and the downpipe is very long. On the the RACE header, the tubes are very long and equal length. They extend all the way down under the engine. It's the tube on the passenger side that comes down where the motor mount is and that's why it has to be modified.

The hp downpipe would look very similar to the stock one with the exception of maybe have a bigger diameter and not having a cat.

StLVtec:

How is the performance before and after the new downpipe?

When I installed the header i noticed some good bower throughtop end , then when i got the downpipe it pushes harder around when vtec kicks it, its pretty nice I would recomend it. Im gonna be getting my custom intake manifold done in about a week. And Desi there wasnt any fitment problems
