Comparison of CAI/SRI to the K&N drop-in filter?
Comparison of CAI/SRI to the K&N drop-in filter?
Ok, how would a drop-in filter like the new one from K&N compare to a CAI/SRI. If you guys say that our air intake system is restrictive then just replacing the filter with K&N's drop-in one won't really affect it much? Evidence also suggests that CAI/SRI offer negligible performance improvements as it is. Therefore isn't our air intake system not too restrictive since there are no real improvements for using an aftermarket intake of any kind?
Isn't the biggest advantage the ability to reuse the filter?
Also, the CAI and SRI create "noise". Would a drop-in filter have the same effect? What makes the distinctive noise of an intake?

ok, for about a year i had a AEM cai installed, until i recently removed it....i noticed that w/ the aem cai i had a significant amount of lower rpm torque loss, but i did have a pretty substantial upper rpm hp gain....when i re-installed the stock intake these torque losses and hp gains became more apparent.....i can def feel the low end torque and the car is more driveable...BUT i can also feel the HP fall off up top, it does not pull any where near as hard to redline.....it just takes its time to get up there....
what i have planned on doing is purchasing the drop in k&n filter and tyring two situations...
1) just installing the drop in K&N filter...i will see how this performs
2) installing the drop in K&N filter and removing the stock intake resonator.....i will see how this performs as well
i will keep you all posted...

Try this. Put in the K&N replacement filter. Remove the stock resonator and replace it with a section of flex hose that runs up behind the battery as the OE one does. I did that for awhle with the stock filter and it did pretty well. But at the time there was no OE replacement filter to try.

people suggest not to use PVC cuz if it does melt or what not it creates a poison gas fume or something...
but tahts if it does melt. so I duno.
probably not a good idea to use PVC though...

i wouldnt mind having a K&N filter charger insert for a number of reasons.
1. maintains factory warranty
2. doesnt produce loud engine noise
3. increase performance
4. no need to hassle with smog
5. no need to hassle with cops.
i would like to know how well it performs versus a short ram intake.
I was told that the K&N filter is designed so that it will be less restrictive compared to the OEM paper air filter.
can some1 tell me does it give any extra HP compared to stock?

truthfully it'll probably only do 1-2 hp gain from stock... and equivalent amount of torque..
BUT i dont think u will lose ur low end like u will with an SRI or CAI... it should be a better option than an SRI..
I feel kinda stupid cuz I just got a cheapy ebay CAI to play with... cuz I got tired of waiting for the K&N drop in filter.

I had a k&N filter in a 93 accord several years ago. I didn't notice any difference in performance by simply changing out the oem filter. However, the oem intake itself was very restrictive with tubes that ran off the air box down into the fender well, and into a resonator. Once I removed the tubes and resonator, I noticed a big difference.
Our oe intakes aren't very restrictive to begin with, so you probably won't notice anything.

I have the K&N FIPK and yeah to me it makes noise but from what others have told me it is actually quiet compared to other SRI. As for power I feel the the power band has actaully smoothed out considerably with increases in both torque and HP across the band. The dyno sheet from K&N claims 4 hp gain over the range.with slight 1 - 2 hp loss's in the lower band 0 -2000 rpm , I find myself cruising at 70 to 80 before I know it. But I feel you can't really notice this loss with the addition of sythentic oil ( I am running AMSOIL) which will allow the egine to rev smoother and quicker. However this said I may be selling my FIPK and going for a K&N drop in simply cuase I am not into the vaaarrruuuummm thing.

I dunno if this helps much but truthfully i think it does help...i ran the 1/4 mile stock and compared it with the parts later...i saw a good 1 second improvment on the time....[hr]

I got the Drop-in filter yesterday and installed it as well. I didn't saw any difference when driving on the city but as soon as I got on the highway the car responded better. I was able to merge in the highway better reaching 65mph a bit faster. I also notice a better respond when passin. There are improvements with the Drop-in not big improvements but noticeble. I'm very happy with it.
soRry guys i respoNded sOo late...i jUSt plACed the aem sri aloNg witH HKS hi-power...and relized a good second off the time...if you i want i can post the time slips to prove it too....but yEa...
