Supposedly Quaife has a ATB Diff for us...?
I was browsing the latest Honda Tuning mag (which I just got in the mail today) in their "Prelude Performance Guide" section and I saw the Quaife ATB Differential. I had seen an article on Modified.com a little while back detailing the install of a Quaife ATB Diff on a 1995 VW Golf GTI VR6 and I remember thinking to myself how sweet it'd be to have a true LSD on my car (of course, back then I had stock wheels & tires so wheel spin was a much bigger problem). Here is that article if you want to check it out Modified.com Article - Steps For Quaife Install
Well, after seeing that baby in HT reminded me of how much I wanted it, I went on the stateside Quaife U.K. distributor Quaife America's website and checked their Application Guide to check if they [still] had nothing to offer for the 7thgen civic, and my assumption was confirmed. Yet, I figured I might as well dig deeper and see if they had something on its way perhaps, so I sent an email to Quaife America and shortly thereafter got a reply I certainly was not expecting. Here is the complete email trail, provided for your reading pleasure:
Now, obviously when I first got the first response, I was very skeptical because I know aftermarket companies regularly say that a part fits the 7thgen civic when in actuality they just tacked '01' onto their range of years that a part fits without realizing that this new generation civic is very diff than the previous generations. so, I inquired further by providing specific details and pointing out that that part was listed to be for previous generations and confirming that it would still fit, and I didn’t just get a lame answer that proves they have no clue what they are talking about, but an answer that seems like it might even be true....I can't tell, but if its true I hope I get paid REAL soon cause I want me one now!
FYI: based on the Application Guide for the Quaife ATB Differential (here is their 2002 price list) from Quaife America's website, assuming the part number I was provided with from Quaife America is correct for our cars, the MSRP and part number required for a 2001-2002 5spd Civic (which requires a 40mm bearing) is as follows:
Part Number: 60.309.155 (40mm bearing)
MSRP: $895.00 (Quaife America is having an "inventory reduction sale" on this part which makes it $695)
NOTE: I went on to Majestic Honda and found that the price for 2 40mm shoulder bearings, the drive gear, and drive gear bolts required to not remove anything from the stock diff would cost ~$200. So, if you wanted to go ahead and just start with new gear and bearings, you'd pay a total of $900 for the diff and bearings and drive gear, then all you'd have to factor in would be installation, which would easily be several hundred dollars. Hopefully, for like $1200 you could get all that hardware and get it installed, that'd be worth it in my opinion.
Here is a good article with some down-and-dirty details about how the Quaife ATB works Quaife A.T.B. Limited Slip Differentials for the Mitsubishi Eclipse. Here is another even better article about this product Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing Differentials from ENDYN.
Does anyone else know anything about if this sounds like the real deal or has anyone else heard any rumors, etc?

Yes, in the event that your application has the 40mm diff bearings, the $695 price is still valid. In order to receive this price, you would have to purchase the unit direct from us. Our sales office can be reached by calling 949.240.4000.

FYI: based on the Application Guide for the Quaife ATB Differential (here is their 2002 price list) from Quaife America's website, assuming the part number I was provided with from Quaife America is correct for our cars, the MSRP and part number required for a 2001-2002 5spd Civic (which requires a 40mm bearing) is as follows:

that is a good point, and without either nitrous or forced induction, a Limited Slip Differential on our cars may seem kinda excessive, but remember that the price could be like ~$1000 if you dont replace the drive gear (which doesnt need to be done) and you find some place to install it for like $250-300 (which shouldn't be too hard) which could be an excellent addition to an already heavliy improved 7thgen (brakes, I/H/E, wheels & tires, suspension, LSD...a dream come true).
i personally would do this no question for that kinda price, cause to me, having an LSD is the one thing i many times when driving my car say to myself "man, i wish i had an LSD!"... also, keep i mind that this diff is usually $900 and some for other cars are over $1000 so this is a helluva bargain!

Yeah, looks legit. I would like an LSD as well. This one is different though. A.T.B. differential. From the reviews it's even better than an LSD. Wow, if I had the money I would buy this up ASAP. I too hate wheel spin. Burning out is stupid since only one wheel spins. Taking off you have a good amount of torque steer. Stupid! Nevermind snow and ice.
I might get this sort of differential in the future when I have added a bit more power into my car. Until then I'll just have to dream about it. :
