This is the second one I've installed. The first was on my sister's civic. I haven't used it yet though. My sister's civic is close to it's next oil change though, so we'll see if this thing comes in handy. It should, although oil still spills out from the filter when you unscrew it. Maybe an oil filter relocation kit would solve that problem?

i dont really spill any oil taking out the drain plug but the damn filter gets oil all over the place. its just in such a bad place that its impossible to take it out without gettin oil everywhere. if u do find a way to change the filter placement make sure to post it.
I've been using one of these on my wife's van. It works great but here's a tip: As soon as you tighten the hose on the fitting the oil starts flowing. I recommend placing the other end of the hose in a funnel or container BEFORE you attach the fitting to the drain plug. I learned the hard way!

It's a good modification even if you don't change your own oil IMO, since when you take it in for an oil change you don't have to worry about them over-torquing the drain bolt and stripping the threads on the oil pan. They did that in out old '87 Honda Accord and the next time we went in for an oil change they made up pay for the cost of a new oilpan and labor.

Oil wrench? Oh, yeah. I don't use those. I just hand tighten as hard as I can. I estimate that it's the right torque (25 foot pounds) or 7/8 of a turn. I should buy one though, just to be sure. I've had no leaks the way I do it and I've changed a civics oil four times already.
Oh yeah, the FRAM SureDRAIN thingie can be bought at Walmart and it costs somewhere betwean $15-$20.
