I was looking on RockAuto for a replacement forward control arm bushing for my '03 CRV (exact same as the 7th gen Civic). I noticed MOOG and TRW offered a socket style bushing instead of the original rubber design. I have always thought the original design was stupid. Unless the control arm is perfectly level the rubber bushing is under constant stress. This is even worse in the CRV with the added ride height putting even more angle on the control arm. I haven't seen this socket style before but I like the design. Has anyone else used one?
Original design:
Socket style design. I'm unsure what kind of socket but I imagine something similar to a ball around the center sleeve that slips into a socket on the outer ring. The MOOG socket style is quite a bit more expensive ($25 vs $9) but the TRW socket style is only $12.
