Rep Power: 0 RACING DOWNPIPE MADE BY HKS
i just got the SS DC SPORT header and since its just the upper piece a downpipe is really needed. i was on ebay and i found this downpipe for our cars on an EX. i wonder if its true and if its a true downpipe and if it goes w/ the emission control.

Rep Power: 0 Hmmm....does it have a high-flow cat or is it completely straight through. I wonder if it has all the spots for the sensors to fit into. This maybe a great alternative to the hp setup. You could buy the hp shorty and bolt it to that downpipe. Hmm....nice find.

Rep Power: 0 i already got that on my car,
you know what sux is that we have
2 sensors that plug into our stock downpipe,
1 o2 sensor and an EGT sensor which
is your exhaust temp. and the EGT sensor
plugs into your stock CAT., this racing downpipe
does not have a hole to plug that sensor into,
look at the picture shown from ebay,
it only has the hole for the o2 sensor,
so you have to make a little extention pipe about
5" long that goes in between your stock pipes
and your Cat., thats what i had to do,
cuz your Check Engine Light will come on w/o that sensor.
you need to plug that sensor in!!

Could you explain the mod in a little more detail, or better yet, post a pic.

Rep Power: 0 mbow, have you clicked on rockmanxneo's pic it has no 2nd hole
for the EGT sensor, have you looked at your stock cat
if this racing downpipe was really made for our cars dont you
think they would put an EGT sensor hole to be placed in?
the HP header with hi flow cat has one
this doesn't, know what i mean??

Rep Power: 0 I have that exact downpipe. It works nicely with my DC header and OBX cat back exhaust. It only has one o2 sensor. I had to buy an o2 simulator to make my engine run properly and have the check engine light go off. That guys acution claims a 9 HP increase, I doubt it is that much but my car definitly was a little more peppy! The only downfall I noticed in using the downpipe is the foul smell of emissions. Hopefully I don't get stopped for that!

Rep Power: 0 here's a trick you can use... take foil and use it to cover the sensor and zip tie it up in a secure position. i've done this and no problems. i used to get the cel light before i used this trick, but haven't had it since.

Rep Power: 0 what im gonna do is have some muffler shop weld me up a pipe so its straight through and then get the simulator. Ill probably try that aluminum foil and zip tie trick for the egt sensor so its all good.

Rep Power: 0 Before I got the simulator I wrapped it in foil to keep dirt out of it, but the check engine light still came on. The way the simulator works is it connects to your throttle position sensor and your RPM sensor, of course you need positive and negative, then you have to cut the signal wire for the 2nd o2 sensor on the cat. The simulator only works for that sensor. The signal wire is the black wire then the simulator feeds the correct signal to the ecu based on the throttle and rpm's.... The 2ns o2 sensor still must be connected to the harness with the other 3 wires for it to work correctly.

Rep Power: 0 the foil works fine for me. before, i zip tied it up with nothing covering the sensor. that worked fine, but around every 3 weeks the cel light would flash. so to reset that, i just pulled the positive terminal. and now with the foil, it's been fine for about 2 months. get the simulator if it'll calm your nerves, but i'd rather not spend 50 bux on that.

Rep Power: 0 Roy you don't understand!! YOu're engine is not running properly without the proper codes sent from that o2 sensor. Based on the sensor readings, the ECU has different fuel maps and settings based on different speeds. Thats why the the simulator hooks up the the TPS and RPM sensors. So If you're going really fast it knows what fuel map to use.. Oh well.. TO me it was a good 50$ to spend so nothing long term bad happens....

Rep Power: 0 sorry, i get all that you're saying. but i wasn't sure what that simulator really does. from what i knew about it, it's only to fool the computer to not throw a cel. but thanks, if it really makes a difference, i might just get one also.

Rep Power: 0 so basically, if i wanted to have a muffler shop make me up a pipe for where the cat sits now, they would have to make at least one hole for one of the two O2 senors to sit in and then get an 02 simulator for the other one? Is this right or am i missing something?

Rep Power: 0 The stock downpipe has 2 o2 sensors, 1 right under where the header is, and 1 right on the cat, at least thats how it is on the EX. Anyways, with the test pipe it only has 1 o2 sensor, the one right below the header. The o2 simulator replaces the one on the cat. I hope this helps. Later.
