ODB-II code reader recommendation?

My 2003 Honda Civic hasn't been running right recently, it misses sometimes. It's worse under medium and heavier acceleration. Don't notice it much at light acceleration.

I'd like to buy a code reader to help me diagnose it.

Would anyone like to recommend an ODB-II code reader and/or software?
I'd like to get a lower cost one, and I've seen recommendations that it should include capabilities to read realtime/live data and freeze frame.

I discovered a code reader, a Mac program; Movi (and Movi Pro) that would run on my Mac laptop.
It costs $50 for the program, plus $40 for the cable.

Has anyone used this diagnostic tool/program; Movi? Do you have any comments on it?

Does anyone know: How well does this program work?
Or can you recommend a code reader or scan tool that's not too expensive?

Thank you,
Bill
