2004 civic back bumper.....help
2004 civic back bumper.....help
I need some advise quickly.....yesterday I rear ended a 2004 Honda civic.....going about 3 mph.....didn't even leave a mark anywhere on the back bumper.....the guy crawled underneath the car and said I have to replace his back bumper ....because the obsorbers on both sides are broken.....so he needs a whole new bumper. My queston is: are these absorbers attached to the bumper ? ...or is there any truth to that at all.....or can I just replace the absorbers ....or what....any advice would be greatly appreciated....thank you

What you should have done was call insurance so they could send him to an adjuster/shop to look at the "damage"
As for your question, there is a foam shock absorber bar within the rear bumper. Its not apart of the bumper and can be replaced

i would rather pay the couple hundred out of pocket then have my insurance go up because that woul cost way more money in the long run.only thing to worry about is this guy making an insurance claim after you replace the bumper.

its safer to do it thru insurance (not to mention the proper way).
because if the other part is shady, after you pay them out of pocket, they will claim insurance and you get bent over twice... ask me how i know.

not sure if your problem's been resolved yet
the 'bumper absorber' is only design to take away 5km low speed impact when hitting people(not cars), usually made of styroform.
so, absorbers usually are the first to break in a collision
absorber has nothing to do with 'bumper cover', it's just a part of 'bumper assy.'
the 'proper way' is go thru insurance company, then settel with them later
civic absorbers doesn't cost 'hundreds', also there are some aftermarket certified parts on market which are cheaper than oem
