Aluminum Door Panels

Anyone seen race cars with aluminum door panels, dash boards and trunk layouts?

I have not found a company to this date that fabricates and sells these kinds of products. There is a possibility that I am going to begin making them for a few models of civics like the 7th and 6th gen cars i was wanting to know if anyone would be interested? I need to know if there would be a market for this and whether it is even worth producing.

Please give me some feedback and I will keep people in the loop with what is happening!

These arent exact images just some ideas however space for handles of some sort and window crank etc. would be a must so let me know!

Re: Aluminum Door Panels

I have not seen them however people who build their cars for strictly racing and want the weight loss i can see this being usefull. Not sure how many people would want it or how much they would pay.. GL with your project.

Re: Aluminum Door Panels

i don't see the point for either racing or street cars. that wouldjust ad weight on a racecar as appose to just leaving it bare. on a street car the stock door panels are already light weight. and since these aluminium panels are so straightforward and easy to make i doubt people would be willing to spend twice as much for something pre-made thats so easy to do yourself with a sheet of aluminium and a sharpie. id say you would be better off making them out of carbon fiber at least that way it would be something harder to come by.

Re: Aluminum Door Panels

I have a feeling you are miss informed because you need a metal brake to fabricate these panels so clearly you haven't done a lot of work with aluminum and the reason for installing them on a race car is it finishes it off and actually makes the car safer to drive ex. no sharp edges etc.

Even if it is a street car some people strip out the interior and it makes for a clean look not that the stock panels aren't light or nice looking it is the style personally I would prefer an aluminum panel over plastic it is far stronger and actually lighter.

I am buying an eg soon so once i make them for my car i will post some pictures and you can decide for your self it is an opinion but i like the style. If it is a racecar and you wanted to put it in a show it looks extremely clean IMO.

Re: Aluminum Door Panels

I agree with everything Lowlife said, I don't see why anyone would put this on either a full race or street car. Maybe a hard parking 240 with a cage even though it never hits the track would buy them..

By the way, I only see one simple bend in the metal, anyone could do that at home with a board and clamps. Even if they couldn't, a shop would bend both panels for a case of beer.

If you think they'd be great, make them for your own car, but I doubt you'd ever sell any.

Re: Aluminum Door Panels

thats my point its basically just for looks which does make a full on race car look better but on a street car would just look ghetto.

Re: Aluminum Door Panels

I honestly don't like it but there could be a market for tuners if you painted them or something. I think stock is a much better way to go personally. However, if that **** was white gold I'd buy 4!
