Rep Power: 0 2000 Honda Civic w 100k miles needs new exhaust manifold???
Took car to the dlr who said the check engine light was for an Oxygen Sensor. On further inspection the dlr found the exhaust manifold to be cracked. He estimated $900 for the manifold alone and total $1400 to repair the manifold and sensor. Does this sound realistic for a 10 yr old Civic with 100k miles? Any insight would be appreciated. THANKS!

Thats usually the estimate for honda doing the manifold change cause they give you the hole thing the shorty header and cat. The cat is what is expensive. You can easily buy a aftermarket header for alot cheaper and you can also do this yourself and save yourself alot of money.

Thanks so much for quick responce.
Forgive my ignorance, cat? is that catalytic converter?
Typically a handy person, but not much exp on cars. Still easy to do? Search online for parts?

Ya cat means catalytic converter. And ya its really easy just take the bolts out that hold it to the head then the ones connecting it to the mid pipe, take the o2 sensors out then take it off the hanger then put it back together. Make sure you put the gaskets back on it or get new ones. Most the time though when you get a new header it comes with gaskets. And ya you can find some online.

Cat converter is in the exhaust manifold (#4). Make sure to buy new gaskets and bolts. It would also help to have a cutoff tool or a bolt breaker as exhaust bolts are notorious for being extremely hard to break loose due to expansion and contraction of the metal.
