Lighting questions opinions needed

I have been searching reading like crazy and am so confused about lighting, electrical lighting retard here sorry. Anyway I was thinking about going with HID's but dont want to get pulled over and ticketed for it, so I think I just want to go with some new Projector's with PHILIPS- Xtreme Power XP +80% bulbs I here these are the brightest bulbs out there. So my questions are what are good aftermarket projector housings to get? what brand is best at a good price? there are so many, I am not worried about picking a style just want to know who makes a good one that wont let water in & fog, and that projects light right. Thanks in advance for any help.

TYC.DEPO are some i can think of but there all basically the same you could just seal the edges yourself before you install them.but i hear the after market projectors give you worse light output no matter what bulb you use.

Re: Lighting questions opinions needed

pretty much.. They're all pretty much gonna have some sort of leakage problems, usually only enough to fog the headlight, and light output kinda sucks. Even with HIDs, the beam pattern was really narrow.

I have TYC projectors in mine, but I now have them retrofitted with TSX projectors. Here's a comparison to the halogen projectors vs HID projectors:

Obviously what you did was a boat load of time/$ looks awesome and that is the ultimate no doubt. I am just looking for a cheap way to get some more light right now I am thinking two routes lmk what ya think would be best.

1. new Projector's with PHILIPS- Xtreme Power XP +80% bulbs I know stock lights are better than aftermarket as far as light but would I get the looks and little better light with this setup?

2. Keep stock headlights and just get the Philips bulbs?

I figure about $300 for option 1 if you had $300 what would you do for more lighting? While staying legal.

Re: Lighting questions opinions needed

Technically speaking, I really only spent $300 on them.. I bought the retrofit used off another member ($225 for the projectors and his headlight housings, and I paid just over $100 for my projectors), used the best looking front pieces from both his TYC projectors and my TYC projectors, using my existing HID kit with new bulbs (HID kit with new bulbs, $55 bucks).. Ok, so maybe just shy of $400.. You could probably replicate the retrofit with $350 worth of pieces brand new($120 for the TYC projectors, $200 for the TYC projector headlights on eBay, and $50-70 for the HID kit)... But I digress..

gearbox would be the man to ask about the bulbs. I think he has a thread floating around with him comparing bulbs, philips xp +80s being one of them. As light output goes, if you want optimum light output, stock would be the way to go. With projectors, the light output will be narrower, but I was content using them for 5 years until I went with the retrofit.

yeah I might just start off by buying the bulbs since this is kind of just my work car, it's a bit beat up and I dont really see the need to have super nice headlights on a beat up work car. I just buffed my stock lights out and they look like new so might just put the better bulbs in and call it a day.

Re: Lighting questions opinions needed

haha.. that's what I'm rocking.. The headlights look alright in the day.. headlight bezel has a body-matched paint job, custom ccfl angel eyes, and bright *** LED lighting, but also a few marks I can't get rid of, even by high grit wetsanding, and my carbon fiber hood and front bumper are beat to hell, but at night, all you can see from the front are my bright *** headlights.. hehe..

Re: Lighting questions opinions needed

the best light output you will get will be from stock headlight housings (they are by far better for light output than any projector housings on the market right now). the only other way to get better light output is if youre willing to spend at least a few hundred dollars to buy some nice projectors to retrofit into your stock housings. the stock housings are one of the few things that honda made very well on this gen of civic.
