Carbon Fiber door panels and middle console?
Carbon Fiber door panels and middle console?
How much would you pay to have your door panels and middle console wrapped? These pics are for reference only, they are not finished products and are only for reference.

yeah if its just wrapped, prolly not more than 200. you can get a full trim piece kit in cf for around 100-150 and it will look nearly the same. actually i dont think i would like a full cf piece, doesnt look right.
Re: Carbon Fiber door panels and middle console?
When I make structural peices, I make molds. But most of the people I deal with only want the carbon for its looks.
The pic is before I did any trim work so the rectangular center piece will go back in when its done, so it wont look so overdone with carbon.
Thanks for the responses.

ah okay. that would look better then. i would love a cf panel i can put in place of the moonroof glass to fill the hole, but everyone seems to think it cant be done. i guess it would be hard to make a mold since there is nothing with that exact shape, only the roof with the hole. im really wanting to take all my moonroof parts out (glass, motor, etc) and convert to a manual roof where i can just take off the panel if needed, or leave it on when it rains.

Re: Carbon Fiber door panels and middle console?
its a 2002 civic EX sedan (the only model with a moonroof). actually all 01-05 civic ex comes with the same roof specs i think (04-05 might be different, but prolly not). i can double check on the model differences by cross-checking the glass part numbers. i know a few other people were interested here too. mostly because the moonroof glass and all the hardware and motors weighs over 100 lbs. if there is a way to just make a lightweight removable moonroof insert to replace the glass (not a whole roof cap cover) that can be somehow attached and waterproofed, it would still allow a manual moonroof system without all the weight.

This guy made a bolt in plug for his EP3.

I thought one of the vendors were working on a fiberglass or cf plug too but I can't seem to find it. I do know that those plugs did not bolt in. He used the term "rivet in" so I'm not sure thats the path anyone would want to take. Big Schmerm you should make a moonroof plug. Lots of people would be interested in it.

Re: Carbon Fiber door panels and middle console?
bah i have to sign up on ephatch. but i dont want a permanent plug.
maybe the best way would be to make a mold of the glass piece only, then reuse the oem rubber seal around the new piece and push it in so its flush with the car body, then install 4 bolts from the inside to hold it to the body or something. logistics need to be worked out on that.
i guess the idea is converting a moonroof (glass) to a sunroof like this.

The guy that I linked you to who did his plug one off had his bolted in. It looked real nice.
Re: Carbon Fiber door panels and middle console?
As of right now my plan is to recreate the glass piece in carbon, and use the original seals. As far as attachment goes, Im going to have to get in one and do some figuring. Ive spent the last couple years working in aviation, so Im familiar with several light weight attachment processes. Rivets are light, but I can assure you that no one wants to start driving a bunch of solid rivets in their roof, pop rivets are crap and will eventually leak.

Re: Carbon Fiber door panels and middle console?
any updates? even an aluminum version that can be painted will work, doesnt have to be cf. basically something that can replace the glass and still use the oem mounts and seals. i think that would be the easiest, and the glass is what weighs the most anyway.
