Re: looking for performance chip

those performance chips on ebay for 10 dollars really work. i felt at least 40 horsepower when I installed mine..

on another note. buy a hondata/chromepro etc chipped ecu. don't send out your ecu. bring your car and ecu to your local tuner and have then tune it.

Re: looking for performance chip

what track? drag strip? autox course? if autox i suggest to not go as far in engine mods as to having to retune it. if your referring to the drag strip, as thefivespeeder said. it really depends on your mods. however i have heard of "godly" tuners tuning bolt on (IHE) LS motors for 150whp. all tuners are not the same. find out who is the most reputable in your area, not the best deal.

talk about an ignorant way to display ur stupidity.

none of that **** works. most of them just trick ur ecu into thinking colder air is being sucked and and therefore the engine adds a **** load of fuel. its like stepping on ur gas peddle a lil further

btw, half of not MOST these members on this thread were being sarcastic. but most noobs dont catch that drift.

OH MY GOD MAN! ME TOO!

My civic just beats off the rev limiter at about 18,000 rpm now with its new chip, you woudlnt think it would rev that high but the chip makes all the difference, it made it have about 80 hp and it gets about 90 miles per gallon now because of this $5 chip with 2 aa batteries in it i got online from some shady chinese company.

Re: looking for performance chip

i'm no pro but i'll try to help.

on a serious note there are three typse of way to modify your cars ecu (3 that i know of anyway).

the first is a chip.

the second is a piggyback.

the third is a stand alone.

the chip is inserted into a stock ecu to help remap the sensor readings to give a more agressive air fuel curve. as far as i knoe the stock ecu on all civics can not have a chip that plugs in and does this. to bad.

a piggy back ecu uses the stock ecu to get all the signals from your stock (or moded sensors) sensors, intercepts them them sends out a new signal to your engine. this one is the best if you have an automatic and depending on what you buy is fully tunable.

a stand alone unit completely replaces your stock ecu. and is the best for performance when you get it tuned buy a shop. but as far as i know a stand alone can only work on a manual trany.

a tuned car even if everything else is stock can still make more hp and acceleration when needed, over a stock ecu. this is because you can

set your idle rpm higher: so you can idle at 3000rpm rather then stock 500, better for acceleration but obviously worse for gas, this is why it idles at 500 normally.

change your vtec points: so instead of vtec at 4500rpm and WOT you can have the cam profile switch over at a lower rpm.

change your air fuel ratio: this can result in a more agressive combustion but also eats more gas.

and more...

but obviously moding the car's internals plus having a tunable ecu is far better.

Re: looking for performance chip

^ Actually, the stock settings make your car run slightly on the rich side. They do this because it is easier on the engine and farther away from detonating. The first thing a tuner will do on a dyno run will lean it out a bit, this will give you better gas mileage and more HP.

And I don't know why anyone would set their idle to 3000rpm unless they had a racing cam that required it. Setting the idle higher will not give you anymore performance, and it will hurt gas mileage and wear your engine faster.
