Can't decide/18s or 19s

I am not concerned with racing this 2k2 HX. So the large size is cool for me. I have two choices 215/30R19 or 215/35R18. I have on my EF9 205/45R16, but KYB AGX with about 2.5in lowering on sleeve type coilovers. So I am used to a stiff hard ride. I have been warned of the not so comffy ride of 30 and 35 series tires. Also the danger of pot holes vs. rim damage. I just want to hear what others have to say and their experience with the 19-18 setup. Also what is the lowering possablitys with the 19's or 18s. I am kinda leaning toward the 19s. They are huge!

well 19's or even 18's for that matter will be damaged the second you go over your first expansion belt..or hit your first pothole.... get 17's and play relatively safe.. Even a few peeps on this forum with 17's had some rim damage from potholes.

Cheers

I am pretty much driving the same route everyday, and hardly go where I don't have the roads memorized. So yeah I know the risks and accept them. I am just wanting some advice on road feel difference between the 30R19 and the 35R18. Thanks, I know the 35R18 has a better drivabilaty, but the 30R19 is closer the aspect ratio. The speedo is going to like .5% off vs. 1% off too fast.

They fit the aspect ratio closer than any other tire size to rim size, that you can try in the tire calculator. I have come up with the 215/30R19 being the best, and the 215/35R18 being 2nd best. That is in trying to match the stock speedo reading. And yes, they will fit, at least that is what I have heard. I have seen one post in this forum that a 215/30R19 with the Eibach 1.4 inch drop front/rear will work with no rubbing and no fender rolling.

I have 19s with a 215 35 19 series tire. You can drop no more than two inches. It is better to go with a 1.5 inch drop. They ride pretty rough so be careful. 19s look very big on a civic. Just watch out for potholes. If you go with 18s you can get a 225 40 series and have no problems.

Well, you are getting out of the aspect ratio there with the 215/35R19 and for the 225/40R18 is even more out of ratio.

Doesn't the Wings West car have 19s C2 evos on it? Well, either way, if you go 18s or 19s, I believe that you should get your fender well trimmed or rolled because with either size, your gonna be rubbing on small speed bumps and driveways or what not. The 19s look pretty tight if you got a show look going on, but it's still depends on the person's style. I think I just read on a recent thread where someone had to trim their fender well with 18s and a pro kit drop with camber corrected. He or she said it rubbed when he or she went over speed bumps, so there goes cornering and driveways will be a pain, plus bad roads. 30s tires are hella thin, I'm just on 40s and afraid of dents and bends. Theres no 35 for 19s??? Well, pick what you like, but either way, drive cautiously.

Here are the tire calculations- 225/40R18-3.667 too slow on speedo reading, plus minor front rubbing on full turns. 215/35R19-3.010 too slow on speedo reading. 215/30R19-.488 too fast on speedo reading, 215/35R18-1.123 too fast on speedo reading. So the too fast of speedo reading is better than too slow, plus you get a better fit in the wheel well.

I have put a set of 225/40R18 on my civic, borrowed them off my friends 2000 Accord coupe. Anyway they looked good and were drivable, but in the front wheel wells there was minor rubbing on full turns. I have not lowered my car yet either and with this set up it doesn't seem advised. Just too wide of a tire. Plus the off set on his is too much, +45, and the +42 would fit better.

ummmmmmmmm do they even offer 215-30-19 profile? I was only asking because i haven't seen a 30 profile tire with a 215 width in a 19 inch fitment.

Also, the Wings West Civic has 19 inch C2 evo'z with 215-35-19 and a mild drop (to elminiate fender well gap) and they beat on the car and took turns like crazy on a track and the driver reported NO rubbing whatsoever.

I read the article and this is what i remember. Anyone can feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

I am rolling on 215/35/18 with eibach sportlines and camber kits all the way around and have had no problems on full turns or bumps. I don't think they ride bad at all. Tire choice is prob important as well but if I were to do it over again I may have even gone with 19's! 17's are looking kinda small now that everyone is going with big rims.

i would go with the 18's bc of rim damage is more likly with the 19's and the 18's would probably weigh less

This is why you guys don't have any performance. First 17" rims, now 18" and 19", dont expect to accelerate with those things on your car.

I have Falken GR Beta 215/40/18 on some Focal F5's and they ride good. So if you are looking for a good ride the civics can take a 215/40/18 with no problem if you do not have yours dropped too low.
