Tinted windows problem
Tinted windows problem
I recently got my car window tinted on the 8th of oct as a bday gift but i have a few questions about it. For those who have tinted windows, are you still able to see clearly from your back windows? I mean are the head lights from the other cars distorted in any way? I notice that that head lights from the other cars now produced kind of like a "stacked" look. There is the head lights in the middle but on the top an bottom of the lights are little tiny lights that are stacked on top of each other.
I think the problem is the defroster on my back window. The tint didn't cover all glass so the air bubbles caused the lights to reflect multiple images of the head light. Is there anyway to correct this problem?
I'm also not sure what kind of brand or the warrenty of the tint because my gf did it for my birthday gift.
I also notice one long air bubble at the bottom of the window. Should it have dried up by now? or should i take it back and have them fix it?
I took some pictures of the air bubble on the bottom of my window but i guess i can't post a link to it till i have 15 post limit...

yah the glare.. i have it too...
i didn't really like it when i first tinted it.. i'm used to it now
as for the bubbles, i think you need to go back and ask them to fix it for you hopefully you get the lifetime warranty

Yeah most places do lifetime warrenty They told me after i got it tinted to come back in 2 weeks and they would fix up any issues. The tempered glass around the egdes makes for bubbles in all our civics you gotta have em push those down. but yeah i get the glare to i dont even notice any more
So there isn't anything we can do about the glare? My friend also has the defroster grid along with tinted windows but he says that he doesn't see multiple lights. Is the defroster grid causing the glare?

I really dont have any issues... but if you have air bubbles in your tint... take it back now! and get them to fix it.. b/c in time that stuff will just get worse and worse.

tint is smoothed out after application with basically a small version of a Bondo spreader (plastic putty knife)... pick one up and carefully go over the back window in a horizontal motion... the air trapped along the defroster lines should move toward the ends as you slide the spreader along, and that should definitely help... but yeah, if it's under warranty, take it back until it's done right...
the "glare" you see is just the refracted light... the light from headlights behind you now goes thru your back glass, gets blocked (ever-so-slightly) by the small defrost lines, and then travels thru the layer of tint. It just appears to be glared because the light has to travel thru the creased (because it has to go over the defrost lines) tint; the "glare" is not a problem with tint film... the bubbles on the other had are. go get that **** fixed.
Yeah, I have about $1500 in tinting on my car (20% premier and then a double coat of 5% comfort). I also have my whole front windshield tinted. The glare won't ever go away. The bubbles aren't good though. Usually it takes about 10 days or so for all the little air-pockets to go away. I really like my tinting, but I don't drive at night if it is raining because I can't see at all. What type of tinting did you get?

just give it a week to make the bubbles go away. or if you want it done fast, leave your windows cracked before you go to bed. it will be cold as **** in the morning but the tint will have no bubbles. i did it in my civic with 20 percent tint. i accidentally left the moonroof open when i tinted my windows on my bday too. next day, no bubbles. no probs. cool accident

zach_04LX: what % tint do you have down the front? like i said, mine is 35%, and i can see fine, even at night and/or in the rain (i got it done when i was back home in FL during hurricane season, so i've had the chance to make sure several times haha)... again, this might just be a diffreence in clarity between tint brands or something like that, i'm just wondering...

I just got from the tinting place and they said that they would redo the back window tint for me free of charge. They said the reason why i have an air bubble on the bottom corner of the back window is because of the curve of the window places a lot of stress on the tint, hence making it want to curve up. I dunno if that is true or not...
He said that instead of using one sheet of tint for the whole window, he would split it into the top and lower half so that it wouldn't cause too much stress. Will that be a good idea? Is that normally how people would tint the back window?
Should i just have him do the whole window again or take his advice and split the window into two halves?

i don't see why he would have to section it though, sounds like
to me... the guy that did my tint is in a wheelchair so his FOURTEEN year old son did my back window, and it's 100% perfect.. no glare, no bubbles, no peeling... so if this guy is any kind of "professional", you shouldn't have to take any chances with it getting fvcked up in the first place... just my $.02... good luck!
