Rep Power: 0 Easy Questions from the Beginner
I will make this simple. I have questions that may sound insanely easy to some of you.
* I want rims. 17 inches, either Konig Imagines or Tenzo R Exels. This is where tires come in. I want to get 205s to save money...what do the three numbers on the end of the tire mean, for example, 205/40/17. Also, how do I know how wide my wheel is? Help. Also, any advice on rims, for that matter?
* How much slower will my car be after I add bigger wheels? I have an auto, if that makes any difference. If the power "loss" is much more, can I attempt to offset this power loss with an SRI or other bolt on?
* Tie Bar, Strut Bar, which is which?
Thank you for any advice!

Rep Power: 0 205/40/17 - 205 is width of tire in mm, and remember, 25.4mm = 1 inch. So, 205 tires are good for 7", 7.5" and 8" wide rims. The 40 is the sidewall height percentage of the width of the tire, so 40% of 205mm, which means the tire sidewall is 82mm tall. The 17 is of course the diameter of the rimm is is designed to be used on.
How much slower depends on the mass of the new wheels/tires. Even if the new setup weighs as much as stock(about 23lbs), then you will still have more rotational inertia to make move, and slow down, as the majority of the weight of the new wheels is further away from the hub. Unless you buy some very nice rims, more than likely they will weigh more than stock, and therefore you will some performance loss.
Tie bar - is for tying the lower rear control arms together.
Strut bar - links the tops of the struts together(front or back, or both).

Rep Power: 0 0100010 - you rule! Thank you so much.
To others - no, I am not THAT stupid as to not look at the tire calculator. I did look at it, but I had some more questions!
WORKED!

Rep Power: 0 As long as you keep your overall tire diameter close to original, I don't think you will lose power. The section witdth will make a little difference, but a 205 isn't hat much bigger.
I put 195's on mine and there is no power loss.
The big power loss deal is if you go to a larger outside diameter tire, that in effect, changes the overall effective gearing of your car.
