type of finish for headlight blackout?
Okay so I blacked out my projectors cuz they were chrome with Valspar Ultra Enamel and then I put an ordinary acrylic clear finish on it afterwards! But when I baked the assembly to heat up the gooey stuff to put the whole thing back together the paint melted to the clear plastic cover! I tried to minimize the damage but it was showing all the way through to the chrome. So i said Fvck it and peeld all of the paint off and started over. sorry for the long intro but now I am ready to put a clear finish over the repainted chrome cover and i was wondering if a high heat clear coat would prevent it from melting? Anyone used high heat clear finishes in their DIY? I know that the lamp itself doesnt get nearly that hot but to prevent it from melting when i heat it up would it work! the can said the paint is dyno tested to withstand temps up to 500 degrees! Its basically what you would paint your manifold or cyllinder head with! So would it work?

I might be wrong...but why are you heating up the headlight? to stick it back together?
couldnt you just scrape the 'sticky' stuff off and use some silicone or something...
then you could avoid the whole oven situation...

Ive used silicone on another set of lights and it fogged like crazy and plus silicone is too elastic even when its dry! The rubber stuff that originally comes on it holds much better and hasnt fogged yet for me!
i used glue gun to seal mines and works perfectly fine. it can look ugly, but thats only when u open the hood to see the seals.
never throw it back in the oven to heat AFTER is been painted. gotta use a sealant. try the liquid nails line-up materials. sold at home depot. www.homedepot.com or if you have access to glue gun like me, that works as well. but if your wanting a super clean flush install (which is hard),then i dont have ideas for you.
