Stock struts and coilovers, BIG NO NO

Just a little helpful advise guys, if you are planing on getting coilovers and no aftermarket struts then don't. The stock front strut needs to have that big spring to support it. I put coilovers on my car and the front struts were makeing a popping noise. I ordered the Eibach Sportlines yesterday and I hope for the best.

That seems to happen a lot, also with rear shocks. The stock shocks just can't handle the load with the stiffer, lowered springs.

Those Koni adjustable struts look cool, I would like to have the adjustment option for different driving seasons/conditions............

I had eibach prokits with my car and stock struts/shocks, then i switched to ground controls a month later i blew my right rear shock, I just got my koni adjustable yellows in last week after having them rotting in my room since christmas and all i gotta say is WOW. I aim for potholes even with my two inch drop and i don't rub, bottom out, swirve outta control and i can still whip turns like a mother. GET THE KONI's its the best investment i've ever made on my 2k1

How about putting Koni yellow shocks, but keeping the stock springs? Will that work ok?

I made it a couple months with my Ground Controls and stock struts, with a 2.5" drop, and didn't blow any of them. I have since replaced them with the koni's, to give me better ride quality though.

Barkat - yes, you can use the Koni's with stock springs if you want.

i have had my oem struts and GC CO's for almost a year w/o a problem. I don't know what u guys are doing to blow ur struts. You have to use ur haed when lowering, u can't slam with stock struts.

yo flex....obviously you arent aware of simple math......

when you lower a car, it reduces the travel in the suspension (especially with stock struts), and lowering sprnigs also have nicreased spring rates...

stock struts are specifically design to be used with a stock spring and a soft spring rate.....when you subject them to a constantly lowered ride they tend to bottom out, and they can not deal with the added stress of the higher rate spring rates, this is what causes the stocks and struts to start to leak and eventually just give out...

it has NOTHING to do with knowing how to drive

peace

Thanks Mwwhonda. I couldn't have put it better myself. Its pretty obvious that the education level of some of these members aren't too high. Its always nice knowing that some of us still know what were talking about. I guess flex just wants to keep on driving with his stock shock's and struts if he insists its all on driving skills he must love his stock suspension that much.
