Does anybody know how many horse will an auto tranny handle safely. I saw this once before but can't seem to find it now.
The Auto Trannies on the Civic are ated to handle 160 Horsepower. That will be with normal wear.. Can probably take 250hp or so.. but the tranny will burn out quicker.. (may only last 2-3 years) where as with 160hp or less it;s designed to operate and last for at least the 5 years that's it's earranteed for

I'm sure the tranny probably could withstand up to 400 horses.
And I would hope that the trans lasts longer than five years...My '89 Accord had 190,000 miles on it when I sold it, and the trans was barely just starting to go out. But these cars are well built, and the trannies can take a beating.

the stock civic auto transmission is built to handle at max 170 or so hp.. but if ur just talking about auto transmissions in general.. im sure there are some that can handle 500 or more hp..
