Remote Start Question
I am thinking about getting a Viper 791XV Remote Start Car Alarm and just want to see if anyone had any bad experience with it or anything? Also how much you think bestbuy would charge to install it?

I have that system and havent had a problem with it at all! Great system! I bought and had mine installed at Tweeter here in Texas for 500! I would recommend having it professionally installed cuz if you just throw it in there, anyone can come along and disable it! When they installed mine, they put the "brains" of the alarm behind the dash! It would take much longer than a theif is willing to spend to disable that alarm because it would take too long to take the dash apart! Im in the process of adding glass break and tilt sensors to it! Remote start is great for cold weather and even hot weather! Much better for your engine as well especially in the winter! Would definately recommend it to anyone!

I recently installed the alarm.
1. Alarms are only as good as the install.
2. The only real sensor the alarm comes with is a shock sensor. However, there are other things that trigger the alarm such as , Hood pin switch; Trunkl Doors; Ignition.
3. The Range is DAMN good as long as the antenna is mounted right. (top center of windshield. Do not coil the atenna wire, lay out and use as much of it as possible).
4. The install is actually pretty easy, ALl the wires are right under the dash except the tach wire.
5. You will need an immobolizer bypass module.

alarms are usually better than the install, therefore...by stating that the alarm is only as good as the install is limiting the alarms' true potential. Just don't label your **** and you have a great install on your hands.

hahhahahahahahahahah
what thief would try to steal just an alarm??? if someone really wanted to steal your car they wouldnt bother with that. i installed mine and im willing to bet any money that if you give less than a minute i can disable it.
bestbuy charges 140 i know cause i work there. i would not recommend you to them either. in order to save time i tried to send one of my customers to them and they tried to charge 200 to install a HU that took me 10 minutes to do. there work is also very shady... this goes for bestbuy, circuit city, and anywhere that is non-commission.
if you are wondering why i am talking down on the place i work at is because i sell computers not car audio. i cant stand it when they overcharge to do shitty work.. thats just my opinion.
oh yea and to get back on topic.. i have that same alarm it is probably one of the best ive had. so far i have remote start, trunk release, proximity sensors, and window roll down module. if you decide to install yourself i will give you the full rundown. dont make the mistake of paying too much

a bypass module is basically a little box that you either program with the keys code or have an actual key inside of it.
We all know that all new hondas have immobolizer security system. that means that the fuel system etc wont engage when the car is cranked unless the VIN derived keycode is sent ot the ECU. With remote start you dont have the key physically in the car when the alarm tries to start the motor. The bypass fools the immobolizer by sending the key code so the engine will start.
YOU WILL PASS EMISSIONS WITH A REMOTE START ON A MANUAL CAR.

i have lojack as well but lojack doesnt deter thieves from getting whats inside your car... lojack is only there to help you find your car once its stolen. when you go to the movies, the building might keep the signal from reaching to your remote hence the no page. its happen to me before but its probably going to be the best remote you can get right now. the pager is also good in instances where you walk away from your car and wonder if you have locked your car or not. since theres a picture you can see that you have or have not locked it.
i installed my own remote starter in my truck, it was worth it. here is a link to a diy on remote starter installation. if you go to google and do a search on 'electronic remote car start' you will find many links to diy, etc. here is one of the diy i found, it seems pretty good.

like they said earlier, an alarm is only as good as its installed! cought up 100 bucks or so and get the alarm professionally installed! it can make all the difference in the world. its pointless to get a nice alarm and do a sh**ty install! most legit shops wont install remote start on a 5 speed! If you get all of the sensors and get it professionally installed it should last as long as your car! not to mention insurance is less with an alarm!

depends on where you live.. they are fine here.. only thing i dont like about them is that you have to do all these steps before turnning off the car (set ebrake, neutral, tap brakes twice, dance the chachacha..) and if you for some reason have to go out to yer car for something.. you have to do it all over again or it wont work..
i love my remote start.. but i hate pushing the button.. mine is real picky and wants to be pushed the EXACT right way or it wont start the car... i got mine done at honda for $280.. just remote start and keyless.. no alarm..

If you get a remote start on manual, be careful because it will **** your car up if you leave the car in gear. Mines is 5spd but I havent had any problems yet because I never remote started the engine on car. You need an extra key in the alarm so it can start. The key must be the original key that came with your car.
If you planning on getting one real soon, try to get dual shock sensors.

DEI, Alarms are all that is reallly out there. They bought every one else that was worth a crap. I am an ex installer, and installing a remote car start can be tricky if you are not familiar with wiring, and most importantly relays. As for Circuit City and Best Buy they are not bad options, I believe that it is a local problem with a stores install, not a general problem. If you decided to tackle it you self, just remember that an alarms will only stop a hack, it will never stop a pro. If I ever decided to switch to the dark side, nothing could stop me. A alarm, no matter how good it is installed will only give the thief a place to jump wires from more easier..... If you are worried about theft, a back up battery is your best choice....

I worked for radios,*****,speakers and things.Audio trends and midwest electronics, you can do it but don't ever leave your ride in gear...Belive me it sucks this the first I won't do one on.Burrrr!!!
Dei is of the best only becuase they have bought all the others that were good. But seriously there are awsome there one the only companies outthere that spend over a million dollars a year in there tech support.Get a back up battery! the only way there getting it, if they want that bad is knock you out and tow it!!!

wait, what? I have the 791 too and I have yet to do any of that. I unfortunately paid 750 dollars for my alarm and install. Place where I got it installed the bypass and a special mechanism(I really cant explain it, but, Im gonna call the shop to see if I can get a clearer way of explaining it) that detects if my car is in gear or not. If the car is in gear, then it chirps 6 times and makes my pager beep 3 times. If my car is not in gear, it starts the car and my pager beeps 2 times. Regular install with alarm would have been around 500, but, with this sensor it ran another 250. Its a great thing because Ill forget that I put it in gear, and Ill try and start it, but, I never end up getting too.
