Well the title says it all. I know I know they are illegal in the state of Va. but it aint for me. It is for my Brother-In-Law as a christmas present. I dont want anything really expensive anyways. So do any of your guys know of an online store where I could pick one up. thanx.

i used to be in VA before, i ordered a radar online on CIRCUIT CITY then i chose PICK-UP instead of delivery, then i pick it up at the nearest CC in MD (where radar is legal).

my question is, in my 2 years having the radar i dont know if it helps me or what, i dont know when it sounds if it is false or a real police/camera nearby, anyone tested if radars really work?

I wouldnt waist my money on anything but a Valentine 1 or the escort 8500. I've been through about 5 radar detectors, tickets with everyone, but my Valentine 1 (knock on wood)

Get a escort 8500 my friend has one. And wow that thing is crazy. Picks up cops radars from a long distance. He used to always get tickets. Now he never gets speeding tickets

Radar detectors are a waste. All it is, is basically and indicator that you just got hit with radar. If you were speeding at that point.... you're toast. Slowing down after being hit doesn't do any good.

If your indicator goes off, it doesn't neccessarily mean that you got hit with radar. Radar detectors work as long you get excellent ones (300-400 range) and learn the capabilites of the unit. Trust me it's helped me out a few times here and there.

I have the 8500 and I must say that thing is amazing. I do have one ticket with it though and thats cause the cop used laser...basically I didnt see him and by the time your detector goes off all its really saying is hey you just got nailed. All laser/radar detectors can be rendored useless if the cop knows what he is doing. If he has his radar on all the time then basically the better detectors will pick it up from further away...thats basically what you are paying for, and the further away they work from the more time you have to slow down. However if the cop decides to just flip it on as a car passes by then your pretty much screwed if your detector is all your relying on. Thats where keeping your eyes open comes in handy and also paying attention to where cops like to hang out.

yep. never got any tickets since last year. why, know where the cops hide and use ur friggin eyes. i was coming home from nopi racewars and saw the cops on a bridge trying to nail people. all i saw was two suvs stopped on the bridge and i hit the brakes. the guy in the Z next to me got pulled over.


always always always speed in traffic and not by your self in the left lane. that way if u get a ticket, its easier for the lawyer to say its someone else e clocked.

My friend has a cobra, and i have been with him several times where he has been speeding, his radars starts beeping, he slows down, and there is a cop right around the corner, and by that time he slows down and has gotten away on multiple occasions. I dont know much about radars but that is what i have seen.

They should just make a device that picks up police radio band in the area, i wouldn't think that would be that hard, although I'm not an engineer. Just a thought, someone tell me I'm wrong.
