quick drain oil plugs?
I did a few searches but I couldn't find anything. I have a few questions.
1) What size would I need?
2) Can I get them at the local autoparts store or do I have to buy it over the internet?
3) Are they worth it?
4) Are they reliable? Will they not leak?
5) Are there better brands than others?

14x1.5 is the thread pitch in the pan. I've seen the Fram ones at Autozoo, no idea how they work... I just use the trusty stock one.

The problem with those is when you go to screw the peice with the hose in so you can drain the oil, it will start draining before it's completly screwed in. That makes the oil go all over cuz the hose will not point straight down and it changes directions as you turn it. Other than that, I haven't had a problem with it. I think it's fram number sd-2. You can get it at autozone.

the only thing i can think that is wrong with that, is that metal shavings wouldn't be able to get out as easy leaving it in there to scratch up your internals. That is a big draw back if its true.
i have the Fram Sure Drain and it works "OK". only problem is that it donest drain all oil completely. you have to remove the actual plug to drain all the oil.
i guess the product works fine to prevent the oil from spilling everywhere. i wouldnt buy it tho.

Fumoto Valves
Blue:
Check out http://fumotovalve.com/
It's well made, and unlike something with a tube or whatever, it pretty much gets all the oil out.
Whoever had the comment about sludge has a good point, I'm not sure how well the FV would get out the sludge or some shavings, but it seems to me that the flow of the oil would at least carry it so the crud is close to the drain hole. if you are really paranoid, get a little magnet and put it by the drain hole so the shavings end up around there... then when you open the valve, take the magnet away and the shavings will be mostly pulled out by oil flow. They also sell magnetized drain plugs for that purpose too.
Hope that helps.
