CA Smog Check

A few friends told me I'd be having trouble passing a smog check here in cali since I have a CAI and an aftermarket muffler. Is that true? Do i need to put the stock muffler and air box back on the car to pass a smog check? Has anyone else in cali taken their 2001 for a smog check with aftermarket parts?

New cars only have to get checked every 2 yrs .... at least that's how it's been for my 2000 Chevy Tahoe.
I also have the K&N filter system. Carb. # sticker under the hood will cover the changed air intake. The muffler should be fine. I have the Gibson cat back system on my truck and have seen others pass smog.
You should be okay ... as long as you have the "carb. sticker" under the hood. That is if it's "carb." approved.

Is the Injen CAI carb approved, because I've never seen a carb sticker on any CAI or SAI.

Actually, for california...New cars don't have to be smogged until 5 years. Then every other year after that.

Anything from the catalytic converter on back is smog legal, so your muffler is fine. You need to check you CAI if it's C.A.R.B (California Air Resource Board) approved. There should be a sticker or stamp stating the CARB number and or cert. I know that AEM and Hayame are carb approved, not sure about Injen. OBX is definitely not.

Also, if you purchased your car new, you don't have to smog it for five years. After that, it's every two years.
