Question Flushing coolant..OEM or Aftermarket?

I'm planning on replacing my coolant and wonder if anyone here used the OEM stuff or aftermarket. The manual says to use the OEM one or there is a chance of corrosion, but i think that Honda is trying to get people to buy their stuff so they can make more money. Any thoughts??

Is it a fact that the OEM will prevent corrosion?

OEM isn't a must but it's pretty darn close. It is a zero phosphate and zero silicate forumula that doesn't do funky things to your water pump or coat the insides of the engine with stuff.

Prestone green is not a good choice. Use Honda Type 1 (undiluted) or the more common Type 2 (premixed 50/50).

I dont think its the coolant that causes corrosion its the water u add to it. Cuz ure suppose to add half water and half coolant. Dont use tap water!!!!

Yes tap water can have stuff in it but in the US, unlike europe, we don't have water quality issues requiring high levels of phosphates. Phosphate helps minimize european water problems but we don't need the phosphate like they do.

Phosphate "coats" the engine with a pseudo plating (I don't remember the chemical name) that isn't harmful per se but it impedes heat transfer from the engine to the coolant. There are other phosphate properties but in our engines phosphate is not our friend.

The water matters but the coolant is very important. Unless you can find a phosphate and silicate free coolant it's far easier to buy Honda Type 1 or 2.
