Headers For LX Civic
Does anyone happen to have an LX Civic with headers? I have found two companies that make headers for my car but they aren't responding to my e-mails I sent them. I need to know if the header for the LX civic has a place to put the cat.? Any comments would be appreciated.
all LX headers do not include a cat in them... which is why there is no "Carb approved" / "smog legal" headers for our cars... I've heard some people like the kamikaze and some people like the DC header... I think you would be happy with either...
But you have an option tho.
Install the following:
1. EX Header
2. EX RandomTech Hi-Flow cat
3. EX cat-back.
4. EX Front swaybar
Magnaflow with RandomTech sells for $570 from dezod. You dont have to get the Magnaflow, dezod has other combo products.

i thought the EX headers wouldnt fit in the lx's cuz of where the cat. is located! I have a magnaflow cat-back. Will that work with ex headers and a hi-flow cat? I've heard that you cant move the cat cuz it will trip the ecu or something. Is the sway bay absolutely neccessary?
I ended up buying:
DC header - 215
EX sway bar - 35
Magnaflow muffler - 89
Magnaflow hi flow cat - 79
Casper O2 simulator - 79
Muffler shop work - 100
600 for everything... I'm having the shop do the work Saturday the 31st... I'll let you know how it all works out...

He could save some much if he just got the lx header and got a random tech hi-flow cat and attached it to the piping. You don't need to buy all that crap. All you need the LX header from Kamikaze, custom piping, and a hi flow cat and you will be fine, that way you don't have to buy all the extra ex crap.

Hey guyz I have an update on the situation with the OBX and Kamikaze headers. I talked to both companies and they said there is no way to customize the setup to be smog and carb legal. All that stuff about Ex conversions is obsolete. You cannot move your cat. to another location cuz the computer is programed to operate with the cat where it is. If you move it your computer will not operate correctly and your car's performance will decline. If you dont care about passing inspections or getting tickets for smog violations than do what you want to do but be advised that you are going to run into alot of problems down the road. Even if it doesnt seem to be causing problems immediately after installing, it will eventually. Not to mention that these headers wont give you much if any hp boost at all. About the only thing they will do is make your exhaust sound a tad louder and more grumbly but to me that isnt worth the trouble of getting it to operate properly.

yes but if you get an o2 simulator that requires you to move the cat which you cant do. so your telling me that the people that manufacture the headers are lying to me? How rational does that sound?

Do you even know what a 02 sim does? Cause it doenst sound like it.
This is a race header i dont see why people try and make it legal. For inspections or Smogs, just switch back to the regular oem manifold for that.

BS man!! I have had this header for 2 years, with the MIL from big josh racing which everyone says doesnt work, no problems what so ever.

You know it really doesnt matter! Im gonna do what Im gonna do and y'all are gonna do what y'all are gonna do. Im just letting you know that it's not guaranteed to work! Enough said! PERIOD!
the reason they are telling you it can't be done is because it is illegal. You can run a header, no cat and an exhaust, which is illegal, but add the O2 sim and it fools the computer. How the hell do you think mustangs do it? almost everyone I know has no cats on theirs and aftermarket headers and mufflers, they get more power without the cats. I don't know if it will increase with the civic, but with the correct setup, i thing you will see some gains. Sorry but im with master on this one.

Well i know thats why they told me it couldnt be done. But what i was speaking of on this forum was legality which is the fact that you cant legally run headers on a LX civic. Yes I know you can get an o2 simulator but that still doesnt make it legal. I know it can physically be done but i was just passing the word along to anyone else who wants their car to be street legal and plus there were some people saying to just get an EX front sway bar a Random Tech Hi-flow cat and a cat back exhaust along with the LX header. To me that sounds like they are trying to legalize it. I was letting them know that it cant be legalized. Im just trying to clear up some confusion. Thats all i was trying to do.
you just have to hope it passes emmisons, or change it back to stock for your sticker. I am pretty sure if you get caught, it can be a pretty hefty fine. but in my opinion, I think all this emmissons crap is bull, half the laws are made up by some guy who knows crap about cars. These new laws are only to get the old cars off the road and have people waste money on a useless low emmison cars.
