Rep Power: 0 Visual Smog Inspections...
What is it that makes a DC sports header pass and an HP race header not pass? I'm talking about ONLY the visual inspection... is there some sort of CARB sticker or something on the DC sports header that makes it ok? Is there anyway to somehow pretend your HP race header is a DC?
I know this is a bit shady... just curious what your thoughts are...

Rep Power: 0 Your HP(upper portion only) should pass without any problems in every state with the exception of CA...and that is because CA has the most strict regulations and just because the HP isn't CARB approved doesn't mean that it wouldn't get approved, it just means that they probably haven't filed for approval.

Rep Power: 279 i agree ponyman....CA is very picky....cmon lets be real.....DC sports header VS HP header.....they are both header....so we can say air is passing through the header....there for air is passing through metal.....there for DC sports header and HP header are the same......they just wanna see "CARB Legal"....i bet u if u use a marker and write "Carb Legal" on ur HP header then u will pass the visual test lol.
do u guys know what i mean?.....so basiclly air is passing through a pipe so any header will pass the test (actual running test)...doesnt matter if it says carb legal or not.
but w/ or w/o a catalyst converter is another story.

Rep Power: 0 what I'm trying to figure out is it only a sticker that makes the DC header pass visual inspection? Is there some sort of number to reference? I think I'm going to buy a DC header for an EX and Random Catalytic converter and downpipe for an EX and just convert my LX to an EX setup... I'm hoping to pass smog with this setup...
(i will be replacing the front sway bar as well and doing a magnoflow EX exhaust...

Rep Power: 295 If they person doing the inspection its not layback then he/she will make you show them the CARB Number.
Also to my knowedge no aftermarket catalytic converters are legal for installation in California on OBD II vehicles.
