Why are there large $ diffs in intake prices
Why are there large $ diffs in intake prices
Just bought a new 04 coupe LX. Looking for a short ram or cold air intake.
Why is AEM about 120 bucks ( seems ok for what you get)
and some of the others only 30 bucks???. I will prob go with AEM but what gives on such a price differnce. Are the other like STSTuners plastic

You're buying a couple things...
1 is the name.
Then you're buying something that comes with a better filter if you spend more money. AEM, Injen and K&N come with K&N filters. The el-cheapos don't and don't filter as well. You're paying for a pipe that fits and comes with hardware that works. Not all the generic ones seem to have everything you need. You also pay for the instruction sheet, which it seems the cheapies don't have. In theory, you're paying for the R&D that went into it, whatever that is...
Generics don't really need to do that since they copy something else, but that usually means they're missing things like the surface finish inside the piping, or exactly the same bends, etc....

i'd rather spend $23.
*you also get the license plate frames too*
i wouldn't trust generic stuff on my car for sure because its not paid off
but if your curious or heard good stories about them from friends/family/reviews... then go for it.
i was checking out eBay too for intakes before i bought my AEM sri ($114). i was thinking to my self... can i trust these no named intakes?
what if the filter falls off while driving due to poor hardware supplies. think about what you buy before purchasing it.
goodluck and hope you figure something out.

depends on the model of vehicle I have... I'll go with the generic.
if I have dx/lx and I'm thinking of an SRI.. I may suggest AEM's. that shouldn't run over 130.. if u shop hard enough u can grab it for 100 ish.
but if I have an EX and I want an SRI.. I'll go with a generic, and slap on a better filter. there's little to no difference in the tube's construction. fitting varies depending on the actual generic u buy from, as there a few differnent ones.. but it should fit just as well, and anyone with some level of mechanical ability should be able to install the entire thing without future problems.
what you're paying for is obviously the brand name that comes with it. the supposed better quality (which sometimes has been debated upon). a possibly better researched product. a product with support after you buy it. a product with warranty. a product that has been handed from one middle man to the next and finally to you, with price tacked on each step of the way.
do a lil more research and do the usual value comparison.

hey u guys, i got my $23 CAI intake today. i just finished installin it too. took me 2 hrs to instal. i used this site for help.....http://www.madstatic.com/2k1civic/diy/aemcai/index.mv ......yeah. the site shows u how to instal the aem one. the intake i got is EXACTLY like the aem. but its from ebay. it looks, instals excatly like its in the pics. and its from ebay. ha!!! it came with everythin for the instalation. except it was missin one of those rings used to hold together those rubber black things connectin the tubes. but thats ok. i had a spare.. and the black rubber things r blue. thats ok. ok well after instalation i reset it. and then i took it for a drive. no big change. it sounds a lil different at high rpm. i like it. not too noisey but u can still here it. no big power change like all intakes. u can feel the engine strain less to get up to speed so i guess that ok. and u dont really feel it till u get in the high rpms. i dont have pix yet, but ill get them up asoon as i can. but thats pretty much it for now. ill take it to the highway tomorrow and see how well it does at high speeds... oh and yeah its pretty good. $23 not bad over $180. just no plate or stickers

I changed mine because it was raining really bad that week and I was worried about swamping it in the gutter at the bottom of my street. It was enough better that I havent changed back. I didnt think it would help it at all, I actually thought I would lose power but it really helped the bottom end power.

another thing i forgot to mention.... u will need to replace the filter. the aem filter has like a longer rubber thing that adapts to the tube. the filter provided from the ebay is just a regular one and might be a lil hard to fit. but thats about it. i dunno maybe its all in my head but i do feel more pull at higher rpms. i like it alot. 23 dollars not bad. question.... is an intake suppose to make a hissing noise or sumthin like that??
