Megan Racing or Random Tech hi-flow cat?
I'm thinking of getting a hi-flow cat for my car, in preperation for getting a turbo sometime in the (hopefully near) future.
I've been looking at both the Random Tech and the Megan Racing replacement catalytic convertors, but I'm kinda stuck on what I should go with. I'm leaning more towards the Megan Racing as I like the looks and it's quite a bit cheaper.
My main concerns are these:
1) Will it even be an issue if/when I get a turbo kit? I'm looking at going specifically with the SF kit. (Yes, I know about the problems, but I'm willing to deal with them for such a badass kit.)
2) Should it bolt up fine to my DC TCS exhaust? If anybody has this combo, input will be greatly appricated.
3) Does it have the O2 bungs or will I have to worry about a CEL?
Finally - where can I find this thing, other than from Megan Racing themselves? I've looked around eBay and whatnot, but didn't see it. Megan Racing has it for 95.95 + s/h.
If you can recommend the Random Tech cat, by all means, please go for it. I'm up for opinions on what works and what doesnt, because I dont want to toss my hard earned money away for nothing.

Taz 757 I got the Megan Racing converter on ebay for about $90. something dollars shipped and I must say that I love it. It has all the O2 sensor holes in the exact spot as the OEM cat and it bolts exactly as the original cat. After the install I gained a little bit of Top End power (nothin to lose your mind about but you will feel it) It also comes with all the gaskets needed. It also gives the car a tuned sound!!! Tums up to Megan Racing. However the only thing that I was dissapointed about is that after a week or two the stainless steel changed color. (But that is how stainless steel gets with heat)

They are actually 2 different things. The megan one is not a catalytic converter. It is just a pipe with a resonator on it. This is fine if you don't have any smog laws and if you don't mind running an O2 simulator.
The random tech one is a true catalytic converter that flows much more than the stock one. Both bolt up and will give close to the same power. I have the random-tech converter and like it alot. More top end power.

Exactly. Random Tech is a true high flow converter and will provide much better flow than Megan. Random Tech can be used in conjunction with the SF kit. Boosted2K2 was running it for quite sometime with no hassels. The Random Tech is emissions legal and will not throw CELs and will bolt up to any aftermarket cat-back that originally mounted up to the original cat. The piece also includes some documentation regarding it's legality as well. Also read some of the product documentation listed below:
"In fact, Random Technology catalytic converters actually have a higher flow capacity than many mufflers. As an example, a 3" diameter Super High Flow converter flows 502 cfm. Most 3" diameter high performance mufflers flow less than 475 cfm at the same test pressure." --Random Technology

random tech cat kills the megan racing "high flow cat"! they are two completely different things and megan pipe will require you to take on and off for inspection. which sux!
Yes I agree that they are two different things but if you are going Turbo I would look at megan racing cat. And that is a heap of B.S. about the CEL . ( I have has the Megan Cat on for a while and no CEL ever came on)
Also I forgot to mention that in my country there is no care in the world about emmisions, so being emmision legal isn't any of my concern...

its not BS. CEL does come on. it doesn't for some car, but most likely diff. region civics have diff. emission requirements.
same goes for in the US. for a lot of vehicles, there are "California" models of the vehicle with less horsepower, or lower emission. (ie: extra cat convertor, etc.)
if you have the money go with the random tech. sure if emission isn't an issue in ur state or country but if you care anything about the world, then go with that route. heh.
