Putting thermal tape on headers
Putting thermal tape on headers
After installing replacement headers, would it be helpul to put thermal tape on them to keep from putting heat marks on the hood, or does it stay cool enough not to affect it? I noticed that the civics do not have a pad under the hood so i didnt know.

Heat marks on the hood?
Whoa. Never heard of that!
I installed an HP header and it seems to be fine (knock on wood). See pics in my ride.

well i guess im thinkin more in the long run when the startes to fade on certain parts of the hood that are located over the more hot part of the engine. I guess it could be from the sun, but doesn't sounds like from you guys that its not a very important thing to do so ill probably hold back from doing it.

Heat marks? I dont know about that. But I heard that the purpose of thermal header wrappers is to increase performance by keeping exhaust gas hot since they can flow faster with higher temperature.

like delaw said, heat wrap is used to hold in the heat. Heat = energy........ energy = power
In theory, the hotter the exhaust the more power you will get. This is better for turbo'ed set-ups.

Mostly it's useful for race applications, so you won't notice any difference. Wraps also void any warranty the header might have. Oh and you could get a hoodliner to protect the paint from heat.
