People with Xenon Kit

Hey, I've had my Xenon kit on my car for about a year now and the paint in the front lip has started to crack. I was told that it would be easier to just buy touch-up paint for it instead of getting it totally repainted, but I think I should. Anyone else have this problem? What do you think caused it?

You can't tell in the pic, but its bad when you get up close.

Not sure on cause of such a big spot. But bad prep is a big reasone that happens. After a year though maybe not. I use touch-up on my small stuff but yours looks pretty big from here. Might want to repaint. Usually bad prep and/or drastic change in weather causes such a bad spot. Also, make sure your using the right type of paint. If your paint isn't flexy paint it will not expand and contraxt with the urethane, thus cracking. Sorry, I'm not a painter and not too much help. But this is what I've been told by my paint shop sponsor.

where did you get it painted? Some people here with kits said it all has to do with how good the paint job is.

Well it was a good paint job at first, I got it painted at a local shop around here. The sideskirts and rear lip have no problems at all. I think i'm just going to spend the money and have it repainted.

I have the Xenon kit also and the paint is very importent. When I got my kit painted the 1rst time the body shop said that the primer didnt stick very well to the urethane and they had to pick a different primer to use and they ended up doing it twice. Maybe the same thing happened with the shop you got it painted at....... its definatly not the Xenon kit, its the crappy prep they did before the painting.

ok your paint cracked because paint does not adhere to your urethane kit. urethane is not a very porus material and it is difficult for the paint to set in. plus urethane flexes. take it back to the body shop and have them strip and repaint it. but first they have to use an 808 spray or other adhesion promotor. this will make the paint flex with the urethane and wont chip off. it usually cost a little more, but well worth it. i had it done to mine and ive scraped my car a billion times and never had it chip off.

there has to be a body shop in your area that has dealt with body kit painting and they should know what to use, look and ask around, usually there are a few body shops in every city and state that work everyday with custom body kit painting. whatever you do, dont go to macco.
