Finally, a header for an LX
Finally, a header for an LX
I was looking around this morning for a nitrous system for my 02 LX and I saw a header made just for a DX/LX Civic. It's about time someone made one. DC Sports makes it. I found it on www.mantaraymotorsports.com. It the Kamakazi series. It does away with the cat all together, so I guess you'd have to get an aftermarket on, or not run one at all. Just thought I'd let you guys know about it
Sorry about the link I posted. Here is the correct one. www.mmrusa.com/kamcivic.htm

And also, does it really bypass the cat, and does that make it illegal??

is it illegal? you bet your @ss it is no cat = no passing emmissions if you know what i'm sayin, but it is the best bolt on you can get for our little lx becuase if you look we don't have a header like the ex does. the ex has a 4-1, i beleive, stock that's why when the get a dc they get no gain at allwe don't have a real header ours is like just a manifold. that's one of the reasons why the ex has a little bit more hp than ours.

yes the ex has variable valve timing (vtec) and a different exhaust system... (from header to cat back)...
the extra hp are also applied better with shorter gear ratio..
the dx/lx/hx stock header/exhaust manifold is 4-1.. but its so freaking short I dont know if it even counts as one. heh. if you search you'll find diagrams.

anyone have any idea what kind of HP gains can be expected from the kamikazi header w/o the cat on the lx? i would expect to be about 10hp or so because the exhaust restriction is dropped dramatically w/o the cat.
Yeah, I'd like to know the gains also, because the county I live in, we don't have emissions testing. I live in Smith county. That's in Tennessee. I will probably get an aftermarket cat eventually, but I would like to try the header first by itself.
I think you should search. I haven't heard anyone complain about the performance of this header. I would highly recommend it.
And I'll say it again, if you're worried about emissions, just take your header off and put the stock one back on during smog check. Or find someone who'll pass you for a case of beer. It's that simple.

It takes maybe 40 minutes to swap the stock header back in for emissions testing time. I would say the hp gains would be around 10.
BTW where you been, that header's been out for like a year.

^ most likely. the cat is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system and taking it off would help to greatly imporove HP. although there is the risk if a cop pulls you over for speeding or something and decides to check for your cat. i heard there is a huge fine for not having one.
I have it installed it on my LX as well. I have the ceramic header which I bought from BigJoshRacing.com. This is a great product, you can tell the quality of this header and the amount of work that went into crafting it. I have not dynoed my car but I would say it alone gave me more gains then my Injen intake and Cat-back put together. PM me with anymore questions. If you look at the design of the stock header and compare it to the Kamikaze you will see the the huge diffence in the the pipe diameters.
I have an Injen cold air intake and a Flowmaster ForceII catback. By installing this header with no cat cause my check engine light to come on? If not, I'm going to get it.

yes no clue. perhaps you missed the word "will" or "would."
yes installing the header will cause you CEL to come on, but just get a MIL eliminator and you'll be fine.

lease: A more likely situation where a law enforcement officer would check for parts is if you were caught racing at the runs. It's very unlikely unless you make yourself a target to the wrong officer.Huge fine? Indeed. But emission laws vary by state. You couldn't get away with it in Cali.
everyone is giving confusing answers on this topic...one guy says its not noticeable powerwise and the other says it gives more power then i/e combined...which one is the true answer...i have been looking into this product for a while now...i had another question...my exhaust system is considerably loud (i have a silencer on it)...will it become louder if i get the headers?? i have an LX by the way and i have custom piping running all the way to the so called header

nice thread, just want to make a few things clear:
1) How easy is it to install the header, i mean, if i have to do a emission test later on in the future, i don't want to waste the $$ for the re-installation.
2) i have Ex, if i get a Kamikaze header, it wil still help for hp increase, right??? what should i get 4-2-1 or 4-1 with cold air and cat back system???
