adding turbo to auto trans
adding turbo to auto trans
I wanted to know if anyone can help me with the idea of adding a turbo to an automatic civic. I have an ex and want more power. I was also contemplating adding nos to the car but I'm afraid to do either with an auto civic. All my other cars were manual and I never had a problem. I'm just not sure if an auto trans can handle boost like that. Any suggestions will be helpfull. Thanks.

an auto tranny can hold the boost from a non-modified d17 engine. It can only run about 7psi without upgrading the pistons, rings, and rods if my memory serves me right. I have seen it done a few times at my local shops here in the area. I have even thought of adding a turbo to my 2k2 sedan and after long discussions we figured it out to be no more than 8 or 9 psi with a auto tranny and you shold be fine.

Yeah i have an auto also, personaly I think turbocharging a auto is a waste of money- I might think different If i had the money. And if i had the $ to get a turbo kit, i would probably spend it to get a MT. But thats just my opinion. I wish i had an MT.

Automatics and turbos go great together because you don't have to take your foot off the gas. Turbos go awesome with automatics. Go check out the Forced Induction Forum. You will learn more. Also do a SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AT trannys can handle boost as well as MT's, i plan on running 8-9 psi daily when i get my kit installed. we have a few boosted AT here already running 7-8 psi so it not gonna blow to bits on you for running more than 4psi, just cuz your car is a automatic doesnt make it a pu$$y. check the FI forums, theres a lot of info there.
