shift light

i am looking for a stand alone shift light for around $50. will this one work? it looks like an addon and it might not work, but i am not sure. i dont want a 5" tach or anything because i already have one tach and that is enough. so if someone could post a link to a good stand alone shift light for around $50 i would greatly appreciate it. thanks.

i saw one gy on here that has just a shift light and it works. cant you just connect it to the vlue light by the headlight or the RPM wire behind the ECU?

here is the pic of the member that has one. his user id is evol

well i e-mail the member whose photo that is and he told me where to get the light and that everything will work. you just have to wire it to the blue tach/testwire by the headlight. does anyone have a diagram or picture of where this wire is that i will have to tap into? thanks.

it should be just like that, as far as the other wires, you can get a hot lead from your instrument cluster( with a test light, KEY on... lights off)
and just ground to any steel member or to the instrument cluster ground (see wiring diagram in the DIY section )

only if you have the exsisting tach to plug it into. you need what is called a "stand alone shift light"

if so, i'll get the greddy turbo timer even though i don't have turbo

ok.. i have a shift light only too.. this is what you need.. get the Autometer Shiftlight PRo..

all the lights that you guys show dont have a module to activate the light.. autometer has pills that go with the light. it plugs into the light itself.. the light comes with a standard 3000rpm pill..

you need to buy the pill set. of 6000rpm's.. when you get it, it has 6 pills.. 6000, 6200, 6400, 6600, 6800, or 6900. plug in and rev and it will go off at that set pill..

you can find these at summitracing. com.. i got mine there..
light = 60-75 bucks
pills = 20 or so bucks..

install..
red=pos
black=neg
green (i think) = blue wire in your engine bay near the pass headlight.
plug in pill
on the back of the light switch from 8cl to 4cl

link.. if it works

get the standard one.. thats the only one that will work..

mine looks fine (IMO) and it does the trick, I just dont see paying more for a light on a car with a RPM limiter already .... sure I buy autometer too, thats the only brand I trust... but its just a light and its not even a "real" warning light (oil, water, AF)

might as well save the money for something important like rising car insurance

it has to plug into an external tach... not a stand alone light , so sorry unless you spend the bank for an autometer tach it wont work

I tried goin to the ECU also... IT WONT WORK you need another wire!!!
the signal that goes from the ecu is somehow different and will make the light do strange and undesireable things... follow the directions and go to the blue wire, you will save time, effort and more importantly you wont have cut into the ecu wire harness (like me)

usually thats just a warning feature built in, the greddy e-01 has a lil read light that comes on too and thats not a shift point
