If both are measuring the same thing...
I'm basically talking Autometer vs. Greddy/Apexi/Blitz/HKS/etc.... whos gauges are obscenely expensive for a fancy face and a name, but I don't know what the difference in the electonics behind it.
Other than they're metric and 270* sweep... is there any sort of accuracy difference or something I just don't know about.

I dont think there is any difference in electronics. Its like Neuspeed and spoon style sway bars for the civic. They look different and different names, but they do the exact samething. Whats 270* sweep?

Whats 270* sweep?
Only difference I found is some of the expensive ones have a warning trigger and memory. Helpful, yes, but the only way its worth the extra $100 is if your car ever actually trips the warning light.

EVER hear of DEFI guages, they are around 200 a piece for any of them....i think bc they have the memory feature, they are all electronic and they are like twice the size as autometer. my friend wanted to do 3 guages in his WRX....came to like 750 for just the guages...that didnt include any way to put them into place as far as cups, and no installation. u could easily spend 1000 bucks on defi guages, autometer may not have the memory feature but they are more cost effective and do the same darn thing, dont waste ur money, unless u just want to have high class stuff that doesnt add hp. 1000 bucks could partially build ur motor, completely build ur head, buy a N20 kit.
autometer go with them, also their electronic guages are round 100-150 bucks for electrical

Yeah, I've heard of DEFI... some of their **** is insane. They've got a digital data logger now too. Looks like a VAFC, but digitally outputs and stores the gauge info. But thats stuff is all in packages and stuff where you have to wire the console box into the car and stuff. Like hooking up a monitoring computer. Cool and worth it if you really got some stuff to tune, but insane to the passer by.
I'm not really too worried about saving money to "make the car faster". I'm a bit limited to what I can do by the STS rules, so most of the major work is out of the question. I've got my suspension money set aside, and thats really the last major thing I'm gonna do to the car.
This is more of an "I'm bored, and want something to do for 4 hours" kind of project. I don't really care that its $40 or $50 more.
Plus they're metric.... which would probably mess with some people's heads as they try to convert it

IMO autometer is the way to go, I have built up a few different cars (mostly american muscle) but I have always gone with a sound mechanical gauge. the reason I dont go with electrical gauges is the possibality of sender failure or current change and getting a false reading. which is something to look at if you have alot of electrical accs.
just my opinion
however... if you are going to go electrical... go big or go home with these puppies (found in most indy cars) http://www.stackinc.com/index.html
