Trunk holder
ok, i need to know the name of a part, u knowthe part that is used to open and close door, using hydrolics, it looks like a tube, and has been used several times on monster garage to open and close hoods, tunks doors, whatever, by a push of a button. WHAT IS IT CALLED !
why i want it, is i am thinking that if i put one in my trunk, and put the switch for it somewhere hidden, so u cant open the trunk except with this switch, then i will have my trunk theft resistant.

I agree with clownprince. Pretty sure it's called an actuator. Secondly, I don't know if it can't be opened without the switch.
Unless, of course, you shaved off the keyhole, disabled the inside switch, and made the actuator remote activated. Which, I guess could be possible and doable. Is that what you had planned?

It's been my experience that your trunk will not be 'theft resistant.' Instead you'll find that you put in all that research, labor, and money only to have someone damage your trunk that much more when they take your **** anyway.
I think it's a badazz idea, and could prove quite effective on a show car that is garage kept. But unless you've got that extra protection... you should reconsider the costs vs the benefit.
A few of my friends have gone to great lengths to build trick setups like that only to still feel burned after all was said and done. Usually, the theif still gets your equipment, and the insurance company doesn't want to reimburse you for the extra stuff... in your case the electric actuator. (which is probably going to be a few hundred dollars or more to get the kind of length you'll need to open your trunk) Most of those friends now have just a standard alarm and they leave their doors unlocked at night. A whole lot less glass to clean up and work missed to get the windows or door locks replaced.
Theives are richard.

think about it... most thieves will try your door handle first to see if you forgot to lock the doors. As long as you don't have an alarm indicator telling them you have an alarm... it's going to go off as soon as they open the door. I know alarms don't stop them, but it'll startle them if they aren't expecting it, and it may make them move on. Or maybe even shake 'em up enough to slow them down and give you time to get out to your car with you baseball bat and put a new joint in their arm.
