im considering taking the resonator off my magnaflow catback but i was wonder should i just get them to replace it with a regular 2.5" pipe or should i buy an aftermarket resonator? which would be better. i want my exhaust to be louder but still keep the same tone OR make it deeper. also where do you buy aftermarket resonator. i remember someone saying something about a 12" bullet resonator or something? also would there be any horsepower gain/loss with doing either of the choices?

2.5 inches sounds a little too big, unless you are going to do a NA, turbo or swap, you should get 2.25 with no res... unless you have headers, then it will be really loud...

magnaflows are really quiet, and i wanted something a little louder. but my exhaust is 2.5 so why would i get a 2.25? and yes i have a header, but its only a shorty HP racing, but im planning to get a downpipe as soon as i can muster some cash.

If you take out the resonator and put piping, it will be just loud. I vote for the aftermarket resonator so that you have better air flow with a deeper tone rather than a anoyingly loud tone.

Pulling it isn't going to produce the pretty sound that you like. That seems like it's true with anything, if you just rip it off, it's not good, it makes it sound more ricey. Replacing it would give you a similar tone or a slightly different one, but wouldn't produce a whistleing whiny sound, which is what I think you are trying to avoid. As far as horsepower goes. . I wouldn't look for any major gains or losses. A possilbe 1 hp difference either way.

I had 2" custom piping with just a Magnaflow and it sounded nice and loud, but deep. I loved it, except on the highway it just got annoying.

I have a magnaflow muffler with custom madrel bent
midpipe stick with 2.25" and a shop can do it for 75 bucks

True. . unless our cars are having one of their "days" . . I think you know what I mean when your car doesn't seem to have it's normal pep. When it feels like you're running a/c, but you're not? When it seems like the car has like a 10hp loss? On those days it doesn't matter. . hehe. .
