gas
i dont think this has been covered before.
i put nothing but 76 brand gas in my 01 lx auto sedan. and i can only get about 28-29 mpg. this is driving the whole time not going over 3k rpm. i drive mostly highway miles too. and 76 says that their gas is additive free.
so one day i decided to put in arco gas. alot cheaper but its supposed to be bad gas. well i did my usual slow driving and i got about 2 mpg better.
so anyone else expeirence this?

I dunno if it's just me, but my car runs like crap when I use cheap gas. I never put it in anymore, but I used to. Now I either use 89 or 91 octane (From 76) and it runs great. My gas is better depending if I get the higher grade or not.
i get shitty mileage if i use 89 octane for some reason. Last time i commuted from san diego to LA (120 miles) i noticed that the 89 octane gas drained incredibly faster. I stick with chevron 87 octane or Mobile, or Arco ^_^

76 is a name of the company not the octane. I havent ever got gas there before so i dont know but you should have it alil higher then that. about around 39-41 highway miles per gallon and about 32 city

I usually fill up with Exxon 89 Octane and I can make it 400 miles to a tank (right at 400 or after is when the fuel light usually comes on), and I'm NOT shifting at 3000 RPM. I usually shift between 3500 and 5500 RPM.
well....i live in nyc....and i do a lot of commutting from queens to manhattan or even from my place to flushing and i usually get like 28-31 mpg with city and i guess highway combined...seems a bit odd how u guys can get higher mpg.....owells....

I'm pretty sure this has been said before, but a higher octane shouldn't really improve your gas milage. Nor should it give your car a performance gain. A higher octane just means that it can be compressed more before it will ignite without a spark. So, our low 9.9:1 compression engines won't benefit one bit. I'm not trying to call you people liars, but, science tells us it shouldn't make a difference. What does make a difference is how you drive, weather, how much weight is in your car, how often you stop, and what month it is.

our owners manual calls for 86 octane, but I use 93. Yes 93 is more expensive but as you modify your engine more and more, you need your fuel to ignite quicker and more efficiently. Look at the ITR, that beast requires 93 octane. In fact, the RSX-R uses 100 octane. Of course, you would need better spark plugs than the original ones in order to spark the mixture as fast as it needs.

93 octane does NOT ignite quicker or more efficiently than 87 or 91 octane. The only difference is that it is able to withstand higher combustion chamber pressures/temperatures without spontaneously combusting.
Thus, it actually burns slower than 87 octane (but not enough where it makes a difference).
Unless you're running boost or higher compression, stick with 87 octane. You're just wasting money otherwise.

i always use SHEll.. i think it's the best gas available. My car runs shitty on 89 octane and better and better the higher i go up. And i usually range about 36 mpg .... highway/city. And that's even giving the car a little hell.. :O)

i use 87 usually and i get terribly gas mileage. i get about 300-350 miles per tank. im thinking of trying the best out there the next time i fill up. does anyone know if it bad if i run it to almost empty then fill up with high octane gas?
For the first time ever today, i tried midgrade gas (89), just out of curiousity of if I will actually get better gas mileage. I HIGHLY doubt it but for an extra dollar or so, I figured I'd try. Cuase my gas mileage blows, just recently have I been able to hit 330 to a tank.

In Canada:
I use ESSO premium (91 octane) along with my mods (especially the plasma boosters) and I am getting around 50-55 mpg at 120 Km/hr (around 70-75 mph). Really noticed it when I turned over 24,000 Km (about 14,000 miles) on the engine.

the dirtier (closer to 87 octane) gas you fill up with the better your civic will run. people that fill up with hi-test (higher than 87 octane) are retards unless they run turbo or n2o or have uped the compression level. above 87 and the civic will get less mpg and less performance, unless u have the aformentioned mods.
Lower octane gas is not any dirtier or cleaner than higher octane gas. The only difference is their resistance to self-detonation. That's it. All grades of gas from the same pump will have the exact same detergents / additives.
Any perceived gains in driveability and/or gas mileage are based on butt-dyno results only and not on hard scientific tests. Switching to a higher octane than is required will do absolutely nothing for your car.
