Rep Power: 0 Switching out 2008 head unit for 2006 XM ready head unit...
I own a 2008 Civic Coupe EX. I purchased a 2006 Civic Hybrid head unit to replace mine. The 2006 head unit has the “XM/AUX” button on it and the “MP3 (((XM Ready))) WMA” writing below the display. My 2008 head unit does not say XM or XM ready anywhere on the unit. I thought I could switchout the 2006 XM Ready head unit and then activate the XM radio. After investigating further—I am almost certain I still have to purchase and install the Honda XM Satellite Radio unit (P/N 08A15-3J1-000) and the other parts that go along with it?? Can someone confirm this? Thanks!

Make sure and check the part numbers of both OEM units. I have an 09 civic and it didnt say XM ready. However the parts person was checkin on a XM ready unit for me and the part number is the same for any unit. It appears in 09 anyway that all stereos are xm ready. It does have the aux button tho. I installed sirius in mine after purchasing a sirius module and adapter kit. It is the first time they had done that at the dealership. The unit still says XM but it is sirius programming.

XM and sirius are the same company now. sirius bought out XM. whether OEM or aftermarket, if a head unit says it's "ready" for sat radio, you still have to buy the sat radio module separate.
