2009 Honda Civic Won’t Start All of a Sudden

Hi,

Maybe someone on this page can help me. I have a 2009 Honda Civic. I’ve been driving it all day. I parked it on the road by my house for about 10 minutes. When I went back outside to move it into the garage, it won’t start. I can use the fob to unlock and lock the doors and to turn on the radio and AC but I can’t get the engine to start. Could it still be the battery in the fob or is there another problem? Thanks in advance.

Does it crank? Or does it just click?
tried boosting it?

It will crank for a second and then stop. It clicks a bunch of times and then stops as well. I have not tried to boost it yet. I will call CAA for that. Could it be the key fob battery?

So one half assed crank?
I'd try boosting it.
Original battery? It's long overdue for replacement

The battery was replaced a few years ago. I’ve been using my car all day. I had just used it 10 minutes before even. Made several stops. Car started no problem all day. The lights, radio and AC work.

So what happened when you boosted it? (used jumper cables connected to a running car)

I haven’t had a chance to call CAA yet in order to get it boosted. I’m also having a hard time understanding why all of a sudden it needs to be boosted when it worked 10 minutes before I tried turning it on last and has been working all day. The lights all turn on and the radio works.

A set of jumper cables and a running car can provide an answer.

Batteries fail. So do alternators and starters and other things.

Ok thank you. As soon as I can get back out to my car, I will call CAA.

Waiting for CAA to get here. The only reason I’m wondering if it has to do with my key and key fob is that I get a green key light up on the dash when I try to start the car. Could the key fob battery just not be strong enough for the car to be reading the transmitter?

Get out your owners manual and read up on what the light is supposed to be doing, so you might learn if it's not acting right now.

When you turn the key on it should light up once then go out. It should not be flashing while you try to start the engine.

Could the key fob battery just not be strong enough for the car to be reading the transmitter?
No.

The immobilizer system stops the engine from running if it does not recognize a correctly programmed key, but it does not disable the starter.
