Unhappy 2012 Passenger Side Airbag Off

We just bought this 2012 LX sedan, no record of accident or airbag deployment. I have two teenagers both about 100 lbs. Whenever either of them is in the front passenger seat, the warning turns on and off constantly telling me the side curtain airbag is off, whether kids are sitting still or not. This warning takes up the whole display panel with a bright yellow message. Like every 30 seconds, off then on, off then on. My understanding is that if passenger is low weight the side airbag should just turn off, not off and on constantly. Is it possible another sensor in the system is causing this, like the SRS in the seat belt? I can't figure out how it would constantly turn off and on like this without a faulty sensor. In the short run, can the side OPDS sensor be turned off so I don't have an alarm going on and off the whole time I am driving? Any other 9gen civic owners seeing this?

Re: 2012 Passenger Side Airbag Off

Check your owners manual for more of this information!

Someone turned sideways and/or leaning against the door can cause this.

The passengers side air bag (the one in the side of the seat) is disabled whenever the system senses someone has covered the outer side bolster of the passengers seat.
The message displays whenever this happens.

Tell (whomever sits in the front) to sit up straight, buckle up, sit still (dammit!) and face forward.....or you will turn the car around and send them ALL to their rooms!
