Trunk latch from 2006 Civic. The mechanism seems to work just fine. But... when it's in the car, the trunk won't latch. Any ideas?

issue with striker adjustment or the lid not closing all the way ?

You could fold down the back seat and lay in the trunk while watching how the latch aligns with the striker loop to figure if it's an adjustment issue.

It doesn't seem to be the striker. It seems to be a problem with the connection to the lock cylinder. It seems to be a problem with the other piece of the mechanism - the one that holds the latch closed - it doesn't seem to be fully "cocking." It seems like the rod from the lock to the latching mechanism isn't pushing the piece fully into position, so the latch continues to move freely. (I hope this makes sense.) I don't see anything that can be adjusted, or a spring, or anything. Suggestions? Thanks!

To be more precise, this thing (the circled piece) does not move fully into position - and as a result, the latch will not, you know, latch.

Is there a spring that's supposed to pull this into place, or is it a matter of bending the rod that connects it to the lock cylinder?

I don't have one handy to check right now, but yes I believe that little lever should be spring loaded.
Inspect carefully.

That's what it was. Lot's of googling found a picture. A 15cent spring is all it took (well, it was a $5 assortment, but still). Thanks!
