No starter
I can not find the starter cut relay on my 2009 civic. The book says its under dash, but unable to locate.
I need it to check.if it's relay or starter.Starter is real hard to replace....it's buried behind the engine.

Re: No starter
Starter cut relay is in the drivers fuse box.
Here's an even easier place to check for power to the starter solenoid, or manually power up the solenoid: Look for the single wire connector just behind the brake reservoir

Re: No starter
You may need to pull the lower dash trim panel off to see much above the fuses.
Re: No starter
Thanks,I never saw the relays at the top, just the fuses.
You made my day.....have been looking for them for days now.took many trips to book stores and no help.
Are you a honda tech ?

My fingernails are clean.
Re: No starter
Update:
I found out that there is no relay on a A/T so I'm checking the wiring now again.
It impossible to.get to the starter,it's buried. Have to remove the exhaust manifold and other panels.

Re: No starter
I checked starter circuit diagrams for both manual trans and automatic trans, both diagrams show a starter cut relay in the drivers under dash fuse box.
Starter won't crank A/T.
My Civic. Will not crank.Turn key and nothing heard. Replaced battery connectors and charged battery ...no help
I'm going to check for power to starter thru A/T neutral switch.
Very hard to reach the starter.

Re: No starter
I'm going by Hondas wiring diagrams for a 2009 Civic, USA. Online electronic service information version and printed shop manual version, all show the cut relay in the dash fuse box for the 3 versions of the car (M/T, A/T, and CNG).
Does your fusebox have the relay in it, or not?

Re: Starter won't crank A/T.
If you still have the stock air box/intake tube remove it and you'll gain a ton of room and try smacking the starter. Also take a look at the connections
Re: Starter won't crank A/T.
I can not see any air YouTube... the exhaust manifold is in the way of seeing starter. On wire diagram it shows no relay and on another it shows....so being you look at a honda service book.it has to be ok.Will check fusebox again and see I'd on box.
Thanks for your advise,as I'm very confused see Ll the wrong wire diagrams.

Re: No starter
Found a pic of a dash fusebox
Starter cut relay is at the top right corner
(right = passengers side of the box when it is mounted in the dash)

The other two relays at the top are for the power windows and PGMFI main #2

Please don't start more threads on the same subject.
Posts 10, 13, 14 were merged into this existing thread, so it now reads a little funny.
Colin42, this OP posted that thread in 7th gen but this car is a 2009, that's part of why your posts were moved here.

Re: No starter
That is the relay that I swapped and still no start. I got no voltage there at pins and I'm going touched why nothing.
What about grounds?
The honda books are worthless.
If you don't have that, I'll suggest you should get a proper wiring diagram for the entire starter system so you can see what items may be involved and how they are intended to work together, and once you understand all that then you can test with purpose.
Your local public library might have access to an online repair info provider such as Alldata or Mitchell-on-Demand. The diagram I just found in Alldata looks about the same as Hondas diagram.
Re: No starter
I have went to library and they only had manuals to 2007.
I just need to know how to get to the stArter,as it is buried and everything in the way.
They want over $500 to replace Starter and I'm not sure it is that. I need to check power to it.
Thanks for your advise. Al

Re: No starter

It's not a convenient job at all, I would be inclined to spend the extra coin for a high quality part.
have went to library and they only had manuals to 2007.
On the other hand, if you were trying to use non-Honda diagrams that did not include the cut relay used on the auto trans cars, it can't be trusted LOL.
I need to check power to it.
That is the only solenoid circuit connection in the engine compartment that is easy to reach with the hood open.
Reaching the same wire right on the starter is a PITA.
I just need to know how to get to the stArter,as it is buried and everything in the way.
FSM says
Disconnect battery
Remove the exhaust pipe that runs under the engine.
On the bottom of the intake manifold, remove the small stamped bracket (manifold to engine block, 3 bolts)
Unclip wiring bundle from holders
Remove starter bolts.
Let starter drop down far enough to remove the rest of the wiring from the starter
I may remove the tire so I can use a long extension and impact gun on the starter bolts LOL
