Re: external transmission cooler honda civic 2013

Looks like that would give you about 30 NEW possible places for ATF leaks to develop.

Is the dude trying to tow something with that car? Why the extra cooler?

I guess To cool the transmission better. Have you check what is the temperature of the ATF after the original cooler? I'll check soon and I'll post here.

It's also a fluid WARMER, engineers want the trans to come up to temperature quicker so they heat the ATF when it is cold, and it will also cool the ATF when it gets much above the normal coolant temps.

I can read trans fluid temp in the HDS scanner program if I really wanted to, but we seem to have rather few real problems with the transmission.

Do DW1 every 30k and forget about it.

Filter at 100k + if you prefer.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but where's the location of the filter and do you have the part number? Only asking, because have recently acquired a 2006 Civic EX and ATF on the dip stick looks good and was changed a few months ago from the dealership.

What if DW1 is being changed after every 30k and no filter change? Would it have any negative impact?

Thanks very much.

Re: external transmission cooler honda civic 2013

The filters used on 8ths & 9ths is on the backside of the engine. There is no set life, or mileage replacement interval listed for them.

The MM will have you wait until around 60k before it pops up. Too long for me.

The 5ATs in both gens seems to be very trouble free if maintained properly.

Sorry, what do you mean by MM? I had an older accord 1994 EX, F22B1 and was just doing drain and refill with honda ATF, was told it had an internal filter.

That's why asking, just to learn and see if I can make sure get many trouble free miles out of tranny and engine

Re: external transmission cooler honda civic 2013

Drain and fill is the standard service at the dealer. If you want the filter it's gonna cost extra.
You can find the part number in any of the online Honda dealer parts catalogs, I'm sure. Here's one http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

Here's a pic of the trans out of the car. You can see the filter at about 11 oclock from the bellhousing?

Re: external transmission cooler honda civic 2013

I think, that's the part: 25430-PLR-003

BTW, older accords like 1994-1997 also had same filter? As I have never replaced ATF filter for my existing 2003 Civic LX, as well as 1994 Accord EX, all with AT. Thanks for the help

I forgot to note, the trans in the pic is 8th gen (06-11) , your 9th gen is about the same
