Rep Power: 0 2007 Civic. Quick query about cold starts/reversing
Hi guys,
I've recently acquired a 2007 Civic 1.8 and was wondering whether something I've noticed with cold starts is normal. The car starts and idles fine at around 1200rpm but as soon as you apply even the slightest amount of throttle it shoots up to about 2000rpm. Despite the revs being so high reversing the car in this state seems unusually difficult as once any load is put on the engine (seems worse in reverse?) the revs drop again dramatically.
I was wondering if this sounds normal to you guys? Or if something is slightly iffy?
As a side note, once the engine has been running for a while this problem disappears entirely.
Thanks a lot,
Dison

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Sounds normal for a cold engine to me.
All engine speeds are computer controlled.
Your gas pedal is nothing more than an input to the PCM.
Believe it or not, throttle response is programmed to be different in reverse. Takes a whole bunch more pedal movement to get the same response that it did going forward. Normal.

Thanks ezone, I was just checking as I've never had a VTEC engine before and it seemed to rev much higher than any other car I've had.
Thanks for your help.
