Key will not turn. Tried turning the steering wheel and that didn't work. If I replace the ignition what kind of security issues will I have?

What year car? Sidewinder key?

The ignition lock probably needs retumbled. I never replace for this problem, I simply strip it down and replace the set of tumblers in the lock.
