Can I use these speakers?
So, I'm trying to get together a sound system. This probably isn't very Honda related but I didn't have anywhere else to ask. I've got 2 components so far, an Alpine aftermarket deck and two tower speakers. The tower speakers is where my question stems from. They're home audio speakers. I know home audio runs at 8 ohms and car audio runs at 2-4 ohms usually.
The tower Speakers are 2 Beovox m70's, the specs are as follows:
Type: 6304 (to May 1978)
Continuous load 70 W
Music load 120 W
Impedance: 4 - 8 ohms
Frequency response: +4 -8 dB 27 - 20,000Hz
Sensitivity: 5 W
Gross volume: 39.1 litre
Woofer: 25 cm
Phase link unit:12.5 cm
Mid-range unit: 2.5 cm
Tweeter
Will these work in a car? If the impedance is an issue is there a way to circumvent the issue? I'm definitely willing to spend some extra money if need be because these speakers sound amazing in the home, I'm just worried they'll be wasted if I use them in the car and they run out really quick.
If needed, my deck is an Alpine CDE-HD137BT, the specs shouldn't be hard to find but I'll post them if they're needed. Any and all help is appreciated.

Re: Can I use these speakers?
The RMS rating of your head unit is 18W and the RMS of the speakers is 70W (I'm assuming by continuous it means rms). You will be underpowering those speakers if you run them just off the head unit which will damage them. Changing the impedance won't help in this case because they are so far apart. Basically if you have 100W at 4 ohms you would have half that at 8 ohm (50W) and double that at 2 ohm (200W). I would get speakers that are closer to the rms rating or run them off an amp

So if I got a hefty amp I could use them? I only ask because the speakers are free and if I could use them I know they'd be pretty loud.

Keep in mind that home speakers are designed for their specific enclosure. They will not sound nearly as good in the car. Also, the driver material is not designed for the car environment. The cones and surrounds will deteriorate rapidly.
Then you have the issue of rewiring the crossover (which was designed for that enclosure at an 8 ohm load. It will need to be redesigned to put the drivers in a 4 ohm configuration (depending on the number of drivers your are working with). Or you need an amp to compensate for the increase of power required to drive them.

Re: Can I use these speakers?
Would a 200W amp supply enough power? Or to run both of them do I need closer to a 400W amp? Sorry, I'm new to setting up car audio and I'm unclear on how an amp works/distributes wattage. This is my first car. I know they won't sound as good as they do in home but they're free so they'll do for the time being and having a large amp will be nice when I get a newer car with newer speakers.

I know where Benicia is.
Just across the bridge from Martinez.
Too bad you don't drive an EM2, theres me and another member here that's pretty close by to you.

I know they might not sound well make it, they do in home however they are free so they will accomplish for the present and having an imposing amp will be superb when I get a more up to date auto with more current speakers.
