power to ignition coils??

does anyone know if there is a main power wire for the ignition coils, or how power gets to the coils from the charging system or battery... im interested. or is it all separate wires for each of the 4 coil packs.

Re: power to ignition coils??

there is 1 wire that will divide into 4 seperate wires which is the Pos+ signal. This is usually located at a xx-PIN connector.

if you have a Haynes manual you can see how it boils down. i think its like 3 wires in total which one would be for ground, 1 for signal and 1 for Power? its been awhile since ive screwed with coil packs but it goes something like this.

Re: power to ignition coils??

yup thanks i found it.

black= ground
black/white = power
color = signal (different color for each coil pack)

i was checking the voltage that was at the coil, and turns out 13.9v which was alot higher than i was expecting. so i dont think im gonna bother making a relay harness for them just to gain 0.3v higher.

Re: power to ignition coils??

bump. i was thinking some more about this and how to boost ignition performance a bit. but im wondering, with a coil system does it make any difference what the input voltage is? or is the coil efficient enough that it will still send enough voltage to fire the plugs. i thought about running thicker, separate grounds for each coil (the black wire) but for now i just cleaned up the stock grounding point. its the one on the block very near the factory ground wire that goes to the radiator support. what i did was cut off the factory piece and restripped and crimped the wires to a new gold plate ring terminal. the wires were for ingition coil ground, vtec oil pressure switch, and the ecm. also the factory ground was very corroded and the wires were too. i had to sandpaper the actual wires to bring the copper color back. then i wound all of them together and crimped on a gold ring terminal. i guess better than before but im still thinking about upgrading individual coil grounds.
